Toyota Raize Turbo - Fulfilling Promises? | Philkotse Reviews (w/ English subtitles)

Toyota finally brought in a smaller crossover in their lineup last year and it came in two flavors, one with a 1.2-liter engine and another with a 1-liter turbo. The premise is, the turbo will be more fuel efficient. Is it true or all hype? We sought the answer in this video.

0 -> - Senpai, senpai, you will like our car today. - Why? Are we doing a food crawl or a feature?
6.58 -> - No, we're still on review mode. - Ahh. But hey, we already reviewed the Toyota Raize.
12.595 -> Ahh, yes. We already did. But that was the G variant, which we reviewed last year.
17.839 -> What we have for today is the top-of-the-line Turbo.
22.845 -> - I like the way you pronounced Turbo. - Yes, well, I learned from the best.
29.101 -> - I like that it had feelings. - Yes, that...
31.996 -> [Stanley laughs]
32.814 -> - But no, just the Turbo part. - Okay, okay.
36.377 -> - I know you're better at that. - Let's not make this longer.
38.835 -> Let's go so I can turbo this car.
41.824 -> Ahh, yes. But yeah, that is the Turbo variant.
44.898 -> - But first, like and subscribe. - No, they already know that. They are adults.
47.763 -> Editor, cut it in. Let's go.
51.095 -> - Tito Martin, Stanley Chi... let's go. - No, this way.
56.377 -> [music starts playing]
76.473 -> [engine revs]
80.374 -> (Looking for a car?)
87.682 -> (Go to Philkotse now!)
90.186 -> [music plays]
93.738 -> And since we already reviewed the Raize G variant, we'll focus on what's new here on the Raize Turbo.
99.53 -> Well, upfront, it only has a few updates, one of which is the color.
104.293 -> It is now available in black and white, turquoise blue and black, and yellow and black for fans of Kill Bill.
111.137 -> And then, it gets 17-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone finish,
115.896 -> and the power-folding mirrors and automatic headlights are carried over from the G variant.
122.176 -> - Nice, Senpai. Engine? - Let's go.
123.525 -> Okay, let's open it up.
127.421 -> So this Raize variant is powered by a 1.0-liter turbo gasoline engine that delivers 97 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque.
135.926 -> And then, the engine is connected to a CVT.
138.611 -> The power figures I mentioned, Senpai, are the same output as the 1.5-liter engine of the Vios.
145.205 -> So in that sense, let's see if the 1.0-liter turbo of this Raize is more fuel efficient
152.396 -> as compared to the 1.5-liter gasoline in the Toyota Vios.
157.703 -> - A lot has been said. I will close this now, Senpai. - Indeed.
159.864 -> [laughs]
162.909 -> [hood thuds]
164.252 -> Okay. Before we enter the cabin, let's do a recap of the cargo space.
167.679 -> - Sure, Senpai. - Of course, this Toyota Raize Turbo has a...
171.673 -> - manual tailgate. - Awesome.
175.606 -> [laughs]
176.472 -> You did great.
178.134 -> You know, even though the trunk space looks small, it is very spacious.
182.089 -> - To prove to you, I will get inside. - That's what I like about you, Senpai.
186.718 -> - Well, well. - Hmm.
189.036 -> - As you can see. - This even has the tonneau on.
191.621 -> [laughs]
192.825 -> - This is spacious. So, let's get out of here. - You can do it. You can do it.
196.26 -> Of course, I do.
199.568 -> It comes with split-folding seats for more versatile cargo hauling.
204.515 -> - Senpai is right. 60/40 is the split ratio. - Yes, yes, yes.
208.471 -> - Let's close this? - Okay.
210 -> Sure.
210.789 -> [door thuds]
211.806 -> - Let's go inside. - Okay.
212.865 -> Finally.
213.773 -> - Enter the dragon. - Ohh, wow.
215.17 -> [chuckles]
216.163 -> Inside, not a lot has changed in terms of amenities.
218.67 -> Legroom, headroom, and elbow room are almost the same, except for the leather and fabric upholstery.
225.274 -> - Tito Martin, how are you at the front? - Okay, Senpai.
229.011 -> At the front cabin of the Raize Turbo, only two things are updated.
233.843 -> One is the addition of paddle shifters, with the other is the new 9-inch touchscreen head unit.
238.975 -> Then the treatment on the dashboard and front cabin is still the same, as well as at the rear.
243.925 -> We still see a lot of hard plastics, which are integrated to reduce costs.
249.486 -> But the thing is that we still have soft-padded materials on the door armrest and on the center console.
256.323 -> So at least you can rest your elbow.
261.012 -> Senpai, the steering wheel is the same as the one in the Toyota Raize G we reviewed before.
268.826 -> And this still doesn't offer cruise control.
271.067 -> Like I said earlier, this comes with paddle shifters.
273.067 -> And then, the 7-inch digital gauge cluster is the same as the one in the Toyota Raize G.
279.82 -> If you are meticulous, you can change the graphics of the gauge cluster.
284.959 -> If I'm not mistaken, this comes with four options. Just discover it yourselves.
288.207 -> Another good thing about the digital gauge cluster, Senpai, is that it comes with a steering angle guide.
294.115 -> It indicates where your wheels are pointing.
299.732 -> When you are reversing, sometimes, you do a maneuver like this,
303.794 -> and you forget your wheels are still pointing that way, and your turn isn't back to the center.
308.659 -> So the steering angle or direction will be displayed on the gauge cluster.
315.528 -> Let's now talk about the middle.
317.528 -> We have a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
322.03 -> And then, Senpai, for me, the one we have here is the better system.
325.23 -> Well, as it should be as this is the top-spec Raize variant.
327.854 -> In the previous one, Senpai, its infotainment touchscreen feels plastic-y.
335.372 -> It's like it was just randomly placed on top... like a TV Box or something.
340.009 -> This has a more seamless look and the floating design looks nice.
344.049 -> And then, your port for the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto isn't found here.
348.861 -> Instead, it is placed below, which is another good thing because in the Raize G,
353.955 -> the cable hangs from here to here so it looks cluttered.
356.627 -> If you are the type that doesn't want that, you might find it bothersome.
360.865 -> This one has a more seamless connection.
362.894 -> And then, we still have automatic aircon, a same design as the one in the Toyota Raize.
371.281 -> Like I said, the USB ports are now here – two ports, one for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and one for charging.
378.218 -> Like now, I'm charging my pocket Wi-Fi.
381.347 -> Senpai, we still have a 12-volt socket for your gadgets.
387.671 -> In the center console, our gear lever still has silver accents and carbon fiber-like trim surrounds.
396.283 -> But what's nice about this one, Senpai, is that it is elevated. So it is not low and is within your reach when driving.
403.146 -> So it is capable of reducing driver fatigue and, again, easier to reach.
406.505 -> Before I forget, Senpai, like the one in the Raize G, or the layout in the Raize G,
412.226 -> this top-spec Raize Turbo has a driver-oriented dashboard, meaning that it is slightly facing the driver
419.5 -> so you it within reach. You can reach it better.
422.812 -> And yeah, basically, that is the front interior of the Raize Turbo.
430.244 -> When it comes to safety features, the Toyota Raize Turbo has additional blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert,
436.664 -> additional side and curtain airbags, and additional front sensors.
443.312 -> Okay, Senpai. We're now driving the Raize Turbo.
447.716 -> Senpai, the first thing I noticed here is the engine response or the throttle response.
453.793 -> It is notable. Like what we said before, with a slight accelerator, you will already feel the power.
460.23 -> You will feel the power delivery.
462.23 -> Some will say that our aforementioned power output rating is low.
467.942 -> Well, what they need to remember is that the Toyota Raize Turbo weighs around 1,050 kg or below that.
477.539 -> In that sense, it is light.
480.399 -> In comparison, the Nissan Almera is heavier, which has the same 1.0-liter turbo engine setup.
488.011 -> The Nissan Almera is around 1,090 kg, if I'm not mistaken.
492.377 -> So in that sense, if you will look at the numbers, the power output of the Toyota Raize Turbo is adequate.
501.1 -> Another thing, Senpai, I noticed that the steering wheel is not that light. It has a weight to it.
511.665 -> But it is not bothersome.
512.709 -> Like some cars we reviewed, their steering is leather-like.
517.45 -> But this Toyota Raize has a slight weight to it, which will play to your advantage
522.615 -> - because you have more control over the car. - That is true.
525.978 -> Also, it is not significantly heavy. You still won't be challenged when you need to park.
531.275 -> Speaking of parking, when you look at the dimensions of this car, it is not that wide and big.
538.689 -> Well, it is also not that small. What I'm just trying to say is that you can park easily even in a tight parking space, Senpai.
546.649 -> Also, its rear camera will assist you.
550.301 -> So you can park easier.
552.579 -> And then, this also comes with sensors at the front and the rear. That's another difference between the Raize Turbo and G.
559.891 -> - In the G, I think the rear end only has a sensor. - Sensor?
564.383 -> This one is also equipped at the front.
566.383 -> And the sensor is responsive.
568.345 -> But while I'm driving this Raize Turbo, there were times when I felt like the sensor was exaggerating.
575.824 -> It's like even though a motorcycle that is lane-splitting is still far, the sensor is already making noise.
581.437 -> And there were times when the sensor beeped after a vehicle already drove past.
584.04 -> But most of the time, it is accurate and it can help you find a safer driving experience, especially along EDSA.
593.442 -> Yes.
594.159 -> Speaking of EDSA, we already know that the roads along EDSA aren't as nice now.
601.437 -> Actually, it has a lot of rough roads. Our EDSA is kind of rough now.
606.189 -> While driving the Raize along EDSA, I noticed that the suspension leans toward the comfort side.
612.06 -> In other words, the soft side, which is good because it can absorb road impacts better.
617.732 -> As a driver and as a passenger, it can minimize road imperfections well.
624.32 -> So that's a good thing for me.
626.892 -> And then, we you are in idle, Senpai, say you are waiting at a traffic light waiting for the green light,
633.812 -> I noticed that it has a slight hint of vibration coming from the engine, which is natural because this Raize Turbo
643.948 -> has a 3-cylinder engine.
646.103 -> For cars with a 3-cylinder engine, that is common.
648.529 -> Is it bothersome? For me, it is not that bothersome.
653.546 -> You will only notice it when you are a bit fussy
656.641 -> or when you are very bored driving alone so you notice things like engine vibrations.
663.252 -> So that comes from the 3-cylinder engine.
667.105 -> Because like what we said before,
668.548 -> it is an odd number so the balance of the engine isn't as balanced as a four-cylinder engine with an even number.
678 -> And then, what else. Ohh!
680.666 -> We said earlier that in terms of fuel consumption, is the 1.0-liter turbo of the Toyota Raize top-spec
688.758 -> more fuel efficient than the 1.5-liter engine in the Toyota Vios?
693.75 -> So let's do a backtrack.
695.836 -> The Toyota Vios with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine returned us 9.2 km/l while driving it around the city.
706.888 -> Meanwhile, on the open highway fuel eco test run, we got 19.2 km/l.
712.551 -> As for the Toyota Raize, we got 12 km/l while driving it around the city at an average speed of 20 km/h.
723.679 -> On the open highway, I was able to get 22 km/l while driving at an average speed of 90 km/h.
732.412 -> So if you will look at the numbers, Senpai, we can see that this 1.0-liter turbo engine of the Raize is more fuel efficient.
742.591 -> And the driving conditions are the same.
745.659 -> The Toyota Vios had two people onboard.
748.819 -> In the fuel eco test run of the Toyota Raize, two people were also onboard.
754.81 -> So yeah. If you're wondering which is more fuel efficient, based on our tests, the Toyota Raize Turbo is the winner.
764.78 -> How about you, Senpai? Your turn. I mentioned quite a lot already.
767.843 -> Here at the back, it is very comfortable. NVH is good as I don't feel a lot of outside noise.
773.997 -> There are only a few vibrations I feel. But it is not bothersome.
779.383 -> I feel it on rough roads, What you said is true. That's because of the 3-cylinder engine.
785.032 -> Look, we're driving on a mildly rough road, I can feel it but it is not significant.
792.581 -> - It is very slight. - Well, that's because the suspension is leaning to the soft side.
798.115 -> Yes. But overall, my riding experince on the second row is good. And earlier, I was even taking naps from time to time.
806.655 -> [laughs]
808.241 -> - Yes, I heard, Senpai. - I was taking naps earlier.
811.073 -> During idle, I laid down and suddenly found myself napping for around five minutes.
817.025 -> - Power nap. That's important. Yes. - That's what happens after turbo time.
821.87 -> [laughs]
822.905 -> Sure whatever you say.
824.905 -> What else? Are there other things we must talk about?
827.525 -> Well, for me, I think that's about it. That covered a lot already.
831.98 -> - So do you want to go back, Senpai? - Yes.
833.568 -> - Let's go. - Yes.
835.436 -> This double T is something else. Do you know what that means?
839.256 -> - No, what is it? - Toyota Turbo.
841.404 -> [laughs]
842.463 -> The Raize was gone.
843.783 -> [continue laughing]
845.18 -> That will do.
847.012 -> Well, well, Tito Martin, what can you say about the Toyota Raize Turbo?
851.524 -> Well, Senpai, this Toyota Raize Turbo is for buyers who want a Raize with livelier driving dynamics
860.41 -> because it's powered by a 1.0-liter turbo gasoline.
863.511 -> And the engine response and throttle response are better.
866.994 -> And then, this is the type of car for those buyers who are looking for livelier driving characteristics
874.482 -> because apart from the turbo engine, it also comes with paddle shifters, like what we said.
877.716 -> Yes, that one. Paddle shifters.
880.526 -> And the other thing we keep on mentioning is that this vehicle is fuel efficient
884.905 -> as compared to the Toyota Vios.
887.905 -> Like what we talked about in terms of numbers, this Toyota Raize Turbo is more fuel efficient
891.602 -> as compared to the Toyota Vios, which is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine,
896.963 -> based on our tests, Senpai.
899.251 -> How about you, Senpai? What can you say about this vehicle?
902.702 -> Well, this has a Php 125,000 price difference from the G variant.
907.595 -> I find it worth it because of the safety features, and of course, the two-tone finish looks more premium.
916.228 -> Like I told you, turbo hits differently.
918.929 -> [laughs]
919.699 -> It is a bit better.
922.25 -> And you are right, Senpai. I forgot something. Since you mentioned two-tone,
926.583 -> you are right that it has a better appeal. So it is also for the buyers who, like you,
931.237 -> want a car where they can say, "I'm here."
933.816 -> "I'm here."
935.432 -> [laughs]
936.588 -> Coffee is hot.
937.672 -> Also, Senpai, before we forget. The touchscreen is better than the one in the G variant.
942.85 -> - Like you said, the color is brighter. - Yes.
946.55 -> - You said... - You know, right?
950.993 -> Toyota is a bit selfish.
953.022 -> But why buko pie?
954.154 -> [laughs]
955.165 -> That's why you didn't mention it earlier.
957.701 -> Well, I said that because the lower variants of the Toyota Raize have somewhat dull or basic exterior color options,
965.635 -> except for the G variant, okay? That one has a red option.
970.03 -> So that is a bit bright already.
971.5 -> As for the top-spec variants, or the top-of-the-line variant,
974.136 -> the bright colors are made available, like what you were saying earlier,
978.318 -> and those have two-tone paint.
979.74 -> - There. - Okay.
981.354 -> So before we forget, the price of the Toyota Raize Turbo is Php 1,051,000.
987.966 -> - It has a Php 125,000 price difference from the G variant. - Right.
992.336 -> So in terms of aesthetics, engine response, and fuel efficiency, we can say that the Toyota Raize Turbo is indeed well-rounded.
1001.76 -> Okay. So you can also be more well-rounded with the latest news about cars, of course,

1030.04 -> And listen to my Underpaid podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

1035.662 -> [laughs]
1037.662 -> Sure, whatever, Senpai. Let's just get in.
1039.267 -> You might say another rhyme. Maybe, you can do FlipTop
1043.019 -> [laughs]
1044.234 -> Compete against them.
