Seat Ibiza Cupra 2015 review

Seat Ibiza Cupra 2015 review

Downsizing just doesn’t always work. The Ibiza Cupra now has the 1.8 TSI instead of the 1.4 TSI. This hot hatch does 0-62 in 6.7 seconds.

17.741 -> The Seat Ibiza has been around for some time, but Seat refreshed the Cupra.
23.094 -> We're going to play with it today. Let's start with the good news.
27.472 -> The 1.4 TSI has been thrown out. We're driving a 1.8 TSI now.
43.014 -> The 1.8 TSI produces more power. 189 hp and - most importantly - 236 lb ft torque.
55.36 -> That's 52 lb ft more than the previous Cupra. This makes the Ibiza Cupra quick.
62.483 -> 0-62 mph takes 6.7 seconds.
76.075 -> The top speed is 146 mph, but the numbers don't really matter.
82.667 -> A hot hatchback is all about the fun, so let's see how the suspension holds up.
99.211 -> I can set the suspension to one of the two settings this car has.
104.333 -> The first is a standard setting. It works good like that; it feels tight and sporty.
113.52 -> There is also the sports setting, which stiffens the suspension
117.052 -> and the volume of the amplified sound over the speakers is turned up for more engine sounds.
122.811 -> It responds differently on the throttle. All these things make it more sporty.
129.136 -> You don't need it on bad roads like these near Barcelona.
135.662 -> I'd keep it in the normal mode for more comfort, but when you find good asphalt or hit the race track,
143.097 -> you can choose the sports mode. The handling will be more direct and the suspension is grippy.
153.211 -> It's bizarre. It handles small bumps and dips well.
161.957 -> I've fallen in love today, but this car has a few disadvantages as well. Let's cover these too.
168.997 -> To start, ESP cannot be switched off.
177.615 -> Yes, that's a disadvantage because you want to play and hoon sometimes.
185.308 -> There's a sporty mode for the ESP, but it cannot be switched off. That's a shame.
190.935 -> Another disadvantage is the looks. The Cupra looks cool, especially in this strange grey color
199.739 -> with black rims, but the exhaust... Seriously, they're two slanted pipes with a bit of plastic.
211.057 -> This could've been prettier. Make the tips shorter to make it look more sexy.
217.49 -> I think this is the biggest mistake on this car.
223.337 -> This also says something about how good the rest of the car is.
227.303 -> It's a lot of fun.
230.63 -> It can be a relaxed drive, but... The most fun is to hoon it.
240.716 -> The interior looks tidy. They made it look better with more expensive looking materials.
248.931 -> It looks more fresh and tidy. It's not very exciting. It's a lot of black and grey.
254.947 -> You do have white stitching. That's OK.
257.838 -> The rest isn't that interesting. I do like the gear knob. They barely managed to include the Cupra logo.
265.707 -> They also needed space for the shift pattern, so they put that on the rear of the knob.
271.592 -> You can still see it, but not as easily.
289.632 -> Thanks to the bigger 1.8 engine, Seat proofed that downsizing doesn't work.
297.325 -> It ends somewhere. Yes, you can install a 1.4 TSI and yes, it's only 12 hp less,
304.63 -> but driving it feels so much smoother and nicer. You feel it's a bigger engine. That's nice.
313.75 -> You don't have to do a lot of shifting to get the best power.
320.094 -> This is a lot better. We still have one thing left to discuss. The price.
326.748 -> What does it cost to become a typical Cupra driver?
335.95 -> Seat makes an interesting proposition. 24,000 euros is a lot less than you'll have to spend
343.491 -> at Ford for a Fiesta ST, at Renault for a Clio RS, or at Peugeot for a 208 GTi.
350.897 -> While this is a good car. More so, I think... It's not my favorite. It's not as good as a Fiesta ST.
359.587 -> I think that one is sharper and more playful than this car, plus you can switch off its ESP.
366.692 -> I think that's important in a car like this. But, it gets close.
372.175 -> For such a good price...
375.37 -> You could say it's a good deal. Because all the additional tax liability benefits are disappearing,
382.66 -> it may be interesting to look beyond a 1.2 Ecomotive and pay a couple of bucks more for a sporty Cupra.
400.2 -> Made possible by
404.4 -> Subtitles - Maru's Text Support
