The Mustang that I’m testing today doesn’t have a V8 engine under the hood. In fact, it doesn’t have an engine at all and it isn’t a muscle car. This is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and this is Ford’s answer to the Tesla Model Y. I had the chance to spend 4 days with the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and see how it stacks up against Model Y and I have to say I’m very impressed. There is a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT on the way that will compete with the Tesla Model Y Performance. That said, let’s take a look at how the Ford Mustang Mach-E stacks up against the Tesla Model Y.

0.16 -> - Today, I'm driving a Mustang,
1.81 -> but it's not just any Mustang.
3.04 -> This Mustang doesn't have a V8 engine.
4.813 -> It doesn't have a six-cylinder engine
6.67 -> or a four-cylinder engine.
8.02 -> In fact, the Mustang
that I'm driving today,
9.67 -> doesn't have an engine at all,
and it isn't a muscle car.
12.4 -> This is an electric SUV. My name is Omar.
14.79 -> And today I'm test driving
the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
20.091 -> (Exciting introduction music)
34.67 -> So everyone keeps talking
about how this isn't a
36.84 -> Mustang and how Ford
shouldn't have used the
38.93 -> Mustang name for the Mach-E
40.84 -> but hey, blame it on marketing.
42.4 -> The thing is that Tesla has built
43.68 -> such a strong brand name for itself
45.61 -> that Ford needed to come
out with a strong brand
47.9 -> to compete with Tesla.
48.99 -> And there's no stronger brand
for Ford than the Mustang.
52.37 -> The Mach-E here competes
with the Tesla Model Y,
54.33 -> and after driving around
for a couple of days,
56.21 -> I can definitely say that Ford has a clear
58.21 -> winner on their hands.
59.57 -> It's not far off from the model Y in terms
61.3 -> of pricing and range,
62.21 -> but when it comes to interior
quality and overall design,
65.42 -> the Mach-E is definitely the clear winner
67.2 -> when it comes to
68.033 -> competing with the Model Y performance,
69.54 -> Ford is working on a Mustang Mach-E GT
72.103 -> and GT Performance Edition
74.155 -> And that will arrive a little bit later
76.26 -> that said, let me give you a
tour of this electric Mustang,
78.59 -> and then I'll give you my
opinion on what I think about it.
80.67 -> But before I do make
sure you hit subscribe
82.91 -> because it's good for you.
84.62 -> Just like this car is
good for the environment
86.99 -> and hit the like button.
88.01 -> Now, as always, before we
get into everything else,
90.08 -> let's take a look at some of
the cool and interesting things
92.22 -> that you should know about
the new Ford Mustang,
94.21 -> Mach-E let's kick things off
by getting in and out of the
96.606 -> Mach-E, because it is pretty
interesting to get inside.
99.55 -> All you have to do is walk up and
100.69 -> push this little button right here.
102.22 -> The door will open very sightly and
103.76 -> you pull on this handle to
open it the rest of the way
106.34 -> and hop inside.
107.88 -> Once you're inside to get out,
109.19 -> you just pull on this tiny
little latch right here
111.19 -> to open the door and hop outside.
113.13 -> That's probably one of the
coolest looking door handles that
115.74 -> I've seen on the inside of a car.
117.27 -> By the way, the back door
doesn't have a handle to pull it
119.86 -> the rest of the way. So
you just push the button,
121.92 -> stick your hand right in here,
123.8 -> and then open the door.
124.96 -> And don't worry. There
is a fail-safe here.
126.62 -> So no one slams the door on your shirt.
127.93 -> Once you hit the button,
it locks into place.
129.92 -> So you can't close it until
you swing it all the way open
132.338 -> and then shut it. And the same
thing happens in the front.
135 -> Now, Ford has spent a lot of time on the
136.98 -> sounds and animations of the Mach-E.
138.76 -> So once you get inside,
and once you open the door,
141.183 -> and get inside, there's a
cool little animation that
143.72 -> plays across both screens.
147.99 -> And then once you hit start,
150.004 -> (start up chime) it'll make that sound.
152.29 -> And then once you're
done driving the Mach-E,
154.33 -> you turn it off. (Shut down ding)
157.6 -> It'll do that little cool sound.
159.39 -> Now, even though the Mustang Mach-E
160.75 -> is named after an animal,
this thing is a completely
163.05 -> animal free product. What
does that mean? Well,
165.1 -> it means that the Mach-E is
vegan and no animals were
168.16 -> harmed in the making of this EV.
170.18 -> The seats here are extremely comfortable
172.01 -> and they look like they're
made out of real leather,
174.16 -> but they're not, they're
actually vinyl or pleather,
176.7 -> but yeah, the Mach-E is so vegan,
178.33 -> that it even won a PETA E-Cow-friendly
180.59 -> award for using all vegan
materials inside the cabin,
183.77 -> by the way, love that name
of the award eco and E-Cow.
187.46 -> Get it? All right, moving on.
188.77 -> Now while you're being e-Cow-friendly
190.43 -> you can still have some fun because
192.08 -> this is an electric vehicle and it
193.55 -> doesn't have anything under
the front except a frunk.
196.14 -> And once you pop it open,
you have 4.7 cubic feet.
199.31 -> But the coolest thing about the frunk here
201.22 -> is that you can use it for tailgating.
202.59 -> You can actually fill
this area up with ice,
204.4 -> and once it starts melting,
205.78 -> you have a drain hole right there.
207.31 -> So the water can seep through.
208.78 -> You also have cup holders
to get the party going.
211.57 -> Now, let's talk about how
much the Mach-E costs.
213.39 -> Do you have a couple of
trim levels to pick from
215.37 -> starting with the base select model,
216.84 -> which starts at $42,895.
219.89 -> And then later you will
have the Mach-E GT,
222.01 -> which is the high performance Mach-E.
223.54 -> And that will start at $60,500.
225.99 -> My test model here is the Mach-E premium
228.09 -> with all wheel drive and extended battery,
230.32 -> which will give you a total range of
232.11 -> 270 miles on a full charge.
234.13 -> And as tested here, you're
looking at over $56,000.
237.6 -> Keep in mind, you will be eligible for
239.07 -> a $7,500 federal tax credits.
241.63 -> So you can save some money off
the prices that I just gave
244.17 -> you right here. That being said,
245.47 -> the Mach-E premium is
really where you want to be,
247.86 -> unless you're hanging on for
248.96 -> the high performance Mach-E GT,
250.82 -> the premium model will give
you everything from the select
252.93 -> model, and it will add
on active park assist.
255.61 -> You'll also get a 360 degree camera,
258.1 -> you'll get heated front seats and
259.653 -> a heated steering wheel,
which come in super handy
262.25 -> on a cold day like today,
263.49 -> you get memory seats and you also
265.31 -> get a 10 speaker Bang
and Olufsen sound system,
267.74 -> that sounds amazing.
269.11 -> You also get a huge panoramic
roof with UV coating and it
272.7 -> lights up this cabin quite a bit.
274.21 -> It makes it feel very spacious in here.
276 -> And the premium model also
upgrades the base 18 inch wheels
279.02 -> to these awesome 19 inch wheels.
280.67 -> Now let's talk about
power and performance.
282.44 -> Power for the Mach-E comes from two motors
284.39 -> powered by an 88 kilowatt battery,
286.7 -> and you get 346 horsepower
and 428 pound feet of torque.
291.138 -> And just in case you had any doubts,
294.01 -> there's the word horsepower right here,
296.67 -> next to the outlet lid, which you know,
299.13 -> is kind of a reach that,
hey, this is a Mustang
300.557 -> and it has horsepower.
301.93 -> Either way that set up
will give you the ability
304.04 -> to do zero to 60 in 4.8 seconds
306.49 -> with a top speed of 124 miles an hour.
308.98 -> Now that's pretty much on
par with the Tesla Model Y
311.74 -> the fastest Mach-E GT performance edition
314.766 -> is still on the way, and that will do
316.34 -> zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds,
318.543 -> which is right on par with
the Tesla model Y performance.
321.86 -> Now, when it comes to the drive modes,
323.23 -> you have 'Engage', 'Whisper',
326.71 -> and 'Unbridled'
328.41 -> and that basically means
normal, quiet and sport.
332.15 -> Now, when it comes to fuel economy,
333.61 -> my test model here is the
premium all wheel drive
336.34 -> with extended battery.
337.47 -> And that will give you 96 MPGE city
340.71 -> and 84 MPGE highway.
342.9 -> And then once you get inside,
there is a screen here
344.86 -> that will tell you all about your
346.17 -> trip info and tell you
where your energy went,
348.89 -> whether you use a certain
percentage on your
350.74 -> route, climate, accessories
and other stuff.
353.68 -> Depending on which Mach-E you go for,
355.38 -> The range ranges from
211 miles to 300 miles.
359.03 -> The Mach-E GT will carry
a range of 235 miles
362.83 -> for the performance edition
364.31 -> and 250 miles for the regular GT.
367.28 -> Now let's take a closer
look at the design,
369.01 -> which one looks better,
the Ford Mustang Mach E
371.32 -> or the Tesla Model Y?
372.7 -> I'm going to go with the Mach-E
374.44 -> but let me know in the comments below
375.81 -> which one you think looks better.
377.29 -> Of course, for calling this electric SUV,
379.24 -> a Mustang has some
people pretty pissed off,
381.28 -> but this thing looks
pretty Mustang-ly stylish,
384.3 -> and more stylish than a lot of the
385.967 -> EVs that you see out there.
387.33 -> The Mach-E has a lot of cool
Mustang design elements,
390.21 -> including a powerful long hood,
391.84 -> which Mustangs are pretty well known for,
393.63 -> the headlamps are inspired by the Mustang,
395.69 -> and it looks super sharp.
396.87 -> Of course, the taillights
is where the Mustang-ness
399 -> really shines with a similar
design and the sequential
401.452 -> turn signals that we see on all Mustangs.
403.92 -> The side profile of the Mach-E
is also pretty aggressive.
406.82 -> I never thought I would like
the absence of door handles,
409.41 -> but I have to say it gives it
a very smooth and clean look.
412.31 -> One of the main highlights of
413.36 -> the exterior design is the roof.
414.71 -> When you view it from the side,
415.84 -> it looks like the Mach-E has a
really sharp sloping Fastback
418.86 -> style, but when you look a little closer,
420.58 -> you'll see that the
roof is actually higher.
422.56 -> Ford has done some really
nice trickery by painting
424.99 -> the top part black and
making the sloping part,
427.83 -> body colored pretty cool
illusion right there.
430.16 -> It also has a pretty muscular rear end.
432.61 -> And again, you have the
cool sequential indicators
435.13 -> that Mustangs are well-known for.
436.8 -> When it comes to electric vehicles,
438.25 -> the absence of a grill really bothers me.
440.25 -> I personally think EVs looks
super awkward from the front
443.17 -> end, take the Model Y and
the Model 3, for example,
445.81 -> there's just a giant
blank space in the front.
447.95 -> The Mach-E here makes
use of that blank space
450.81 -> with a nice Mustang pony logo.
452.92 -> And I think that's a really nice touch.
454.85 -> By the way, I'm going
to point out something
456.33 -> that you will be unable
to see once you see it,
458.33 -> check out the bar handle
mustache that surrounds the logo,
461.3 -> which is really a shout out to
462.64 -> the Mustang horse color design,
464.47 -> but it looks like a bar
handle mustache to me.
466.92 -> Now, before we move on, let's
check out the cargo capacity.
469.12 -> You have the kick-to-open
future here on the Mach-E.
471.67 -> And once you get it opened
behind the second row,
473.45 -> you have 30 cubic feet.
474.77 -> And with the second row folded,
476.16 -> you have 60 cubic feet,
477.64 -> which has plenty of space for anything
479.52 -> that you want to put in there,
480.47 -> hop inside the new Mustang Mach-E,
482.07 -> and it might be difficult for you to
483.49 -> tell that you're sitting in a Ford.
484.69 -> The overall interior
is pretty well designed
486.87 -> with a sleek and modern feel,
488.73 -> but just like the outside,
489.68 -> beyond the modern and sleek feel of an EV,
491.92 -> there are still some
Mustang design cues in here,
494.62 -> especially right here on the dash.
496.24 -> You have the double brow design.
497.7 -> In fact, that's really
the only Mustang feel
500.3 -> that you have in here.
501.18 -> And that's because the
interior here in the Mach-E
503.56 -> in terms of design and quality
504.74 -> is much better than the Mustang.
506.12 -> Everything in here
feels super, super nice.
508.197 -> And the touch, the dash, the steering,
510.328 -> the center console, the door panels,
513.04 -> everything in here feels
super nice to the touch.
515.91 -> Ford has done an outstanding job.
518.04 -> My favorite design element though,
519.48 -> is this Bang and Olufsen
soundbar that runs
521.58 -> across the dash over here as well.
523.83 -> And the sound system itself is a really,
526.29 -> really solid sound system.
527.58 -> Now let's hop in the back
seat and check out the
529.61 -> rear leg room. You have 38.1 inches of
532.79 -> rear leg room, and that's quite a bit,
534.81 -> I'm about six foot tall.
That's my seating position.
537.12 -> As you can see, I still
have plenty of room.
539.04 -> And since this is an EV,
540.15 -> you have a flat floor so three adults
541.55 -> can sit back here with no problems at all.
543.88 -> Other than that, you
got two vents back here,
545.83 -> and you have a USB-C
charging port and a USB port.
548.69 -> So that's pretty cool. So you
can say charged back here.
551.13 -> Now let's talk about some tech and the
552.7 -> screen edge game going on over here.
554.78 -> You have a 10.2 inch digital
gauge cluster display,
557.74 -> and it's not packed with a lot of info,
559.28 -> like modern gauge clusters.
560.74 -> All you have here is your range,
562.16 -> your battery life, your speedometer,
563.68 -> and your gear select. And
I think that's awesome.
565.43 -> That's all the info that you need
566.68 -> right there in front of you.
567.75 -> Now, Tesla has taken a lot of crap
569.48 -> for not having a gauge cluster
570.66 -> in front of the driver's view.
571.84 -> And I think this is a really
simple and cool solution.
574.68 -> By the way, this section
right here features
576.088 -> some sensors and cameras to
578.06 -> make sure that you're looking forward,
579.52 -> because there's an update
coming to the Mach-E that will
581.81 -> feature some really
cool self-driving tech.
584.13 -> When it comes to the infotainment
585.6 -> the SYNC 4 A system is housed in
587.567 -> a giant 15.5 inch touchscreen display
591.48 -> that has a lot going on here,
592.74 -> but it's not that overbearing.
593.9 -> If you split it up into sections,
595.33 -> you'll get used to it pretty quick.
596.49 -> The top part here is just your
profile section and shortcuts
599.23 -> to whatever you want to access quickly.
601.33 -> This middle section is
basically all your info.
603.68 -> And if you go into settings,
604.91 -> it'll list all your settings right here.
606.81 -> It's also the section where you
608.04 -> can view this giant navigation.
610.17 -> That's pretty cool.
611.003 -> And you can search for
local charging stations.
613.24 -> And then the bottom part here is
614.3 -> basically your climate control.
615.51 -> You tap this button here and
616.77 -> it'll bring up a larger screen
618.31 -> and you can mess around
with your climate control.
620.31 -> But yeah, overall, it's pretty smooth.
621.84 -> You do have Apple CarPlay.
You do have Android Auto,
624.538 -> and it's a pretty easy system.
626.41 -> It does slow down here and there a bit,
628.15 -> but it's not that bad.
629.36 -> Now, before I give you my opinion
630.67 -> on how it is to drive the Mustang Mach-E
632.59 -> let me put it a few random things
633.9 -> that I'd love to show all of you.
634.94 -> You have four cup
holders, two in the front,
637.1 -> and then you have two in the
back for the rear passengers.
640.34 -> The storage game is pretty strong.
642.01 -> You have storage right here
643.8 -> and you can close that up.
644.9 -> If you don't want anybody
to see what's inside,
647.06 -> and then you have some
storage right down there.
649.26 -> So that's pretty cool.
650.16 -> Here are the keys to the Mustang Mach-E
652.26 -> not that exciting
because Ford wants you to
654.3 -> use the Ford pass app to access and unlock
657.23 -> and start the Mustang Mach-E because
658.738 -> that's how new things are done.
660.42 -> And keys are of the past.
662.3 -> Door open and closed sound from the
664.17 -> outside (door clicks shut)
667.491 -> (car beeps) and from the inside.
669.22 -> It beeped cause I had
the keys in my pocket,
670.96 -> not inside the car, (car
door closes) pretty solid.
673.44 -> When it comes to charging,
675.662 -> you have a wireless charger right here,
677.171 -> any of a USB-C and a USB port right there.
678.45 -> And then in the back,
680.05 -> you also have a USB-C port
683.557 -> and a USB port,
684.55 -> If you're going to sit in the
back to charge your devices.
