MINI Countryman 2023 Review

The 2023 Mini Countryman is the brand’s take on a semi-premium compact crossover. A Mini SUV may sound like an oxymoron, but the Countryman has become Mini’s best-selling model. It isn’t the most sensible crossover on the market, but its style and handling have earned it plenty of fans.

0.06 -> The 2023 Mini Countryman is the brand's take on  a semi-premium compact crossover. A Mini SUV may
6.84 -> sound like an oxymoron, but the Countryman has  become Mini's best-selling model. It isn't the
11.82 -> most sensible crossover on the market, but its  style and handling have earned it plenty of fans.
16.92 -> The Countryman family includes three distinct  powertrains. The base engine is a 134-hp
23.1 -> turbocharged three-cylinder that lacks the  power to move the crossover's 3300-plus
27.84 -> pounds with any authority. The Cooper S  has a more powerful 189-hp turbo-four,
33.54 -> but it still doesn't provide the giddyap that we  crave. The plug-in-hybrid model is the quickest
38.4 -> non-JCW Countryman we've tested, but it's also  the most expensive. Nonhybrid front-drive versions
44.4 -> feature a snappy seven-speed dual-clutch  automatic transmission; all-wheel-drive
48.42 -> models receive an eight-speed automatic. The  Countryman's stoic disposition isn't a bad thing;
53.4 -> it's just different from the attitudes of  other Minis, which are unreservedly playful.
58.2 -> Automatic emergency braking, lane  departure warning, and front collision
62.4 -> warning come standard. Adaptive cruise  control and parking assist cost extra,
66.54 -> and blind-spot monitors aren't available at all.
69.78 -> In IIHS testing, the 2022 Countryman earned Good  ratings in the driver-side small overlap front,
75.18 -> moderate overlap front, side, roof  strength, and head restraint and seat
79.56 -> tests. The active crash prevention  systems earned an Advanced score.
83.88 -> All infotainment runs through an 8.8-inch  touchscreen. The base system includes Apple
88.92 -> CarPlay but lacks navigation, which is  available in either of two technology
92.7 -> packages. Android users are out of luck. Also  on the options list are a head-up display,
97.98 -> wireless charging, and a  Harman Kardon sound system.
