0.06 -> In 2019, Ford brought the Ranger back to North
America, but it was essentially an older,
5.4 -> overseas-market vehicle that couldn't compete
with the latest midsize pickup trucks. Finally,
10.44 -> a new Ranger has been unveiled for
the 2024 model year, and it looks
14.58 -> like it will address many of the previous
generation's shortcomings. The new Ranger
18.66 -> will slot between the smaller Maverick
and larger F-150 in Ford's truck lineup.
24 -> The current Ranger was outdated from
the moment it arrived in North America,
27.36 -> as it was essentially a warmed-over version of
a Ranger that had been sold overseas for several
32.16 -> years. This hindered Ford's midsize pickup
truck from being a true competitor against
36.54 -> newer midsize trucks. However, with the debut of
the 2024 Ranger, it looks like this is changing.
43.08 -> While the new Ranger rides on an updated
version of the previous platform and will
47.04 -> likely use a similar powertrain to the Ranger
on sale now, the changes seem significant
51.18 -> enough to make the Ranger a true contender
against the segment's latest and greatest.
55.44 -> One of the most noticeable changes to
the 2024 Ranger is its macho styling and
60 -> high-tech interior. It's also expected
to have hybrid and electric models,
64.14 -> which should give the Ranger an advantage in the
electrified pickup truck race. While we don't
68.76 -> yet know the official North American specs
or how it drives, we're eager to find out.
73.38 -> It's expected that the previous
Ranger's 2.3-liter turbocharged I-4
77.64 -> and 10-speed automatic transmission
will carry over to the 2024 model,
81.06 -> but with slight increases in output over
its current 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque,
87.12 -> and updated shift performance
or ratios in the 10-speed auto.
90.72 -> Basic Rangers will likely be rear-wheel drive,
with part-time and full-time 4WD systems offered
96.12 -> depending on the trim level. If any aspects of the
previous Ranger carry over into the 2024 model,
101.58 -> this powertrain is welcome since it was one
of the few things we liked about that truck.
106.2 -> It's unlikely that the turbodiesel
and manual transmission options
109.62 -> available in other markets will be
offered in North America. However,
113.1 -> Ford has already indicated that there will
be an electrified Ranger in the future,
116.7 -> so it's only a matter of time before
hybrid or all-electric models debut,
120.6 -> possibly shared with the Bronco's hybrid
powertrain or derived from the F-150 Lightning.
126.06 -> The 2024 Ranger rides on a modified
version of the previous frame,
130.14 -> which has been made wider and longer.
This allows for a larger bed that
134.1 -> can fit a pallet or sheet of plywood flat
between the wheel wells, according to Ford.
138.54 -> Bed lengths are still to be determined,
but it appears that crew-cab/short bed
142.92 -> and extended cab/long-bed configurations
of the truck will be available. We expect
147.6 -> the payload and towing capacities to
improve slightly from the previous
150.84 -> Ranger's ratings of up to 1,905 pounds
of payload and 7,500 pounds of towing.
156.84 -> The 2024 Ford Ranger will feature a
high-tech interior with two available
160.74 -> infotainment touchscreens, sized at 10.1- and
12.0-inches, respectively. These screens will
167.22 -> be portrait-oriented and utilize Ford's Sync 4
user interface, which supports Apple CarPlay and
172.2 -> Android Auto. The truck's gauge display will be
all-digital and may come as standard equipment.
177.66 -> Additionally, the front row will feature both USB
type-A and type-C ports, and a wireless charging
183.36 -> pad will be included depending on the trim level.
A 360-degree camera system will also be available,
189 -> and it may even be able to show a view of
the path ahead, similar to the Bronco's
193.14 -> trail driving modes. Overall, these features
make the 2024 Ford Ranger a competitive choice
198.96 -> in the midsize pickup truck segment, especially
for those who value technology and convenience.
