Content
0.18 -> I'll owe you multi-mangle munchers Chomp
Chomp Chomp Chomp Chomp I'm Rafi in the
5.94 -> body with Ralphie review 989 extras additional
whiskey related content from the bothy to you
14.82 -> but before we get any further uh big
malt mentioned thank you to Arijit Das
21.36 -> for providing today's malt mention which is
always there to open up our Ralphie review
28.08 -> here from the bothy somewhere in the middle
of the Irish sea cheers now being an extras
39.66 -> I'm providing you with extra content extra
perspective extra information extra opinion
46.98 -> extra overviews an extra
attitude as well um to help
57.18 -> accelerate your learning curve and
specifically to help you make decisions faster
65.28 -> on what you want to buy that represents the
combination of good quality and relatively
72.06 -> good value for money particularly when the
global rates of tax and whiskeys tend to
78.72 -> be going up and the the rate of tax duty
this is customs and excise duty which goes
85.8 -> to the crown because it's a crown department
just when you understand that it's just the
89.94 -> reality of it and what happens is when they
raise the rate of Duty on a bottle of spirits
98.7 -> in the UK so you look at a bottle of 40
blended whiskey and you're probably not
104.76 -> aware that eight pounds 35 of the price so at
least half the price if it's just a standard
112.2 -> budget whiskey if not more it's actually going
just purely in tax to an organization which has
120.12 -> done absolutely nothing to the contribute to the
economic value and the production of that spirit
127.08 -> um and on top of that when the cost of Duty
goes up this taxation raised by the customs
136.08 -> and excise duty Department um it also gets subject
to value-added tags so in fact by raising one tax
145.62 -> you increase the income of another tax which is
put on top of it simply because and I love to keep
152.7 -> you reminding you of this because you think about
it you really think about the implications of this
159.48 -> um in the UK such as the the complicity of of
the general population and we all want to do
167.7 -> our best to obey the law even when the law is
not fair but you have a particular commodity
174.66 -> alcoholic beverages which are
subject to customs and excise duty
180.72 -> for the crown because it's a crown office and on
top of that they add tax Cog value-added tax and
189.18 -> in fact when you buy the bottle of spirits you're
being taxed on the tax you're already paying
197.22 -> so I ask you is is this
potentially a form of fraud
203.7 -> um well in witness the authorities and they've
got all the power no because they can do what they
208.8 -> like and so long as we keep that in our sights and
keep it don't be naive about things see things as
214.92 -> they really really are then it helps direct where
we spend our money what we buy and what we're
222.66 -> prepared prepared to pay and also importantly if
we decide to Simply buy less less whiskey because
229.98 -> of the increased taxes then what happens is the
customs and excise Department despite increasing
237.66 -> the rate of tax that they're subjecting to
alcoholic spirits to they have that raise negated
244.08 -> by the fact that people are saying this year I'm
buying less alcoholic beverages in fact I'm going
251.1 -> to spend more time not drinking alcohol at all and
therefore customers and excise start to lose money
257.7 -> and you never hear about this it never gets
discussed and it never gets mentioned but it's a
263.82 -> form of Mind Trump it's a form of illusionists
tricks and it's not the only one it's not the
270.96 -> only one that's put there to set traps for us
something that the whiskey industry does and
277.38 -> it's not just the scotch whisk industry far from
it the Tasmanian whiskey industry are famous for
284.28 -> it so it's the Japanese whiskey industry they
certainly do it and the the idea is basically
291.42 -> we will present our full bottle of whiskey to the
British market and I'm talking specifically about
299.04 -> the British Market which I know the best as a 50
centiliter bottle and not a 70 centiliter bottle
308.22 -> so in other words we're going to give our
customers less whiskey and so long as they
316.56 -> don't have a pocket calculator on them they won't
work out that they are preparing proportionally
322.8 -> more for that whiskey than if we had presented it
to them in the UK standard 70 centiliter bottle
333.42 -> this is why on my channel because I know what poor
value it is I very rarely review 50 centiliter
343.2 -> bottles this is the second time I've done it this
year and the only reason I've done it is because
348.36 -> first time round it was Nika from the battle which
won an oswa award the online Scotch whiskey Awards
355.02 -> you'll find a link down below to that very useful
if you haven't seen it please go and check it out
360 -> you'll find it very informative but uh back to
the subject um that was a 50 centiliter bottle uh
368.76 -> presenting the illusion that good stuff comes in
small packages particularly if you make a whiskey
376.8 -> bottle Your Whiskey Bottle as a producer look
like a perfume model so you have little little
383.64 -> bottles and big packaging and because it looks
small you know you're heading towards Precious
389.76 -> Diamond size as they say precious things come in
small packages it's not just a flippant remark
395.7 -> it's actually a profound piece of psychology used
to manipulate people um and this is why you'll get
403.44 -> a a a a luxury designer watch right sold to you
in a briefcase Emma Miller could go in a box but
414.66 -> they'll sell it to you in a briefcase with a whole
load of packaging and physical theater around it
420.42 -> to sell you the idea probably the illusion that
it's actually a really good quality watch well
426.12 -> made and worth the price you've paid and it's
something that McAllen have certainly latched on
431.04 -> to and plundered themselves good luck to them it's
part of their business I'm not buying the products
436.74 -> so I'm not too caught up about it um you know it's
an easy decision for me as a whiskey Drinker and
445.74 -> reviewer but here we have if I really wanted to
review this whiskey because of the signature to
452.1 -> it the quality of of the event sure it'll be
even better when it's a couple of years older
459.24 -> when it has been matured a little bit longer in
refill ex bourbon casks or perhaps a thoroughly
467.46 -> rinsed x white wine casket Riesling Cask for
example or a Chardonnay Cask but in the meantime
475.26 -> um the only way I could buy this was a 50
centiliter bottle now I have been informed by
480.6 -> a patreon supporter on my patreon channel because
these guys bless you are marvelously well informed
487.44 -> and are giving me tips so thank you all you are
watching pattern Pals I always appreciate your
494.88 -> presence and your comments and your feedback
and your personal messages um but I wanted to
501 -> review this whiskey I have heard but it's now
available in 70 centiliter bottles which is a
506.34 -> good thing it's a good thing but I want to tell
you a little bit more about the the Mind Games
513.48 -> and the advantages I'd say short-term advantages
to producers who are regularly using 50 centiliter
522.72 -> bottles and probably the most notorious without
a doubt is the boutique whiskey company lovely
529.98 -> bunch of folk I like them they're really a good
Enthusiast but I never review their products never
539.94 -> um they are highly theatrical um and
I think it times the the bottling good
546.48 -> whiskey and at times they're not um like
so many independent bottles out there
552.48 -> so let's examine the psychology of this it's 50
centiliter bottle and when you go into a whiskey
560.28 -> shop you tend to see the 50 centiliter
bottles all in a row behind the counter
566.34 -> and they're a little bit nearer to you
and a little bit lower down because it
571.5 -> creates psychology if they were in the top
shelf the bottles would look even smaller
576.6 -> but because they're behind the counter behind the
till behind the screen is creating a little bit of
583.38 -> internal retailer theater that it must be more
precious because it's getting this additional
588.9 -> security and protection and proximity to members
of Staff who are at the till serving the customers
599.46 -> right so they are at the epicenter of the
Zeitgeist of that specific whiskey shop now
607.26 -> this creates the illusion that the somehow more
um precious and then you look at the price and you
612.66 -> see actually that price isn't bad but the thing
is what you don't do is get out your mobile device
619.5 -> and this is what you should be doing and this
is what I highly recommend you do and you find
625.98 -> out the real price for that whiskey so take the
price they're asking for the 50 centiliter bottle
633.12 -> take the price divide it by 50 and multiply it
by 70 or if you're in the USA multiply it by 75.
643.98 -> then you will get the real price of that
whiskey and what will surprise you is
651.18 -> just how much the price has jumped it's
roughly 40 percent seriously 40 percent
663.18 -> that's significant but it doesn't end there
you see when there's less Whiskey in the bottle
674.82 -> there's less duty to be paid in the bottling you
never hear about that in 50 centiliter bottles
683.76 -> labels are proportionally smaller therefore
you're cutting down on label costs
694.08 -> you're also cutting down on packaging costs if
the whiskey comes in a box because that box is
703.02 -> simply smaller it's me juicing less materials but
it doesn't stop there because when the producers
714.06 -> pass the whiskey over to their distributors
to distribute within the country and Beyond
721.62 -> there is more volume of product more individual
volume of product being distributed in relation
730.92 -> to the weight of what's being distributed in
relation to the size of the packaging the size
737.64 -> of the freighting therefore less Whiskey In A
Bottle is cheaper to distribute from Distillery
747.18 -> from the bottling plant to the Distributors
to the retailers overseas to other countries
755.4 -> it's simply cheaper to do and it's marginal fair
play it is marginal but when you add up all these
762.78 -> margins of Advantage from smaller short measure
quote-unquote bottles what you get is a 78 percent
775.8 -> compounded advantage and therefore proportionally
these make more profit for the producer
785.28 -> but the chances that they are going to put off
some of the customers because they don't want
794.52 -> 50 centiliter bottles because they feel
like it's a short changing which I do
800.28 -> and possibly you do too I mean let me know what
you think and also they're going to attract a few
808.02 -> novelty customers who maybe don't know much about
whiskey but like the price they're sold in the
814.86 -> theater and then their personal lack of experience
of appreciating a good whiskey means that you know
822.78 -> the result is not what they expected what they
wanted was something convenient slightly sweetened
828.42 -> and Bland and palatable like glavor that's why
look yourself particularly Cleaver are these
836.7 -> flavored whiskeys you've seen them Jamesons are
doing though Jameson's orange flavored whiskey
843.24 -> ah there's what's to come by the way that's worse
I I'm gonna make prediction here at some point
850.5 -> Jamesons are Another Irish Distillery are going
to bring out Shamrock flavored green whiskey it's
856.98 -> only a matter of time people watch that space
when it happens remember who told you first
863.46 -> it's the predictability of banality that's what
it is and the routine nature of novelty and what
872.7 -> you have is the novelty aspect of these smaller
bottles and my conclusion is when you see them
879.78 -> get out your mobile device open up your calculator
and before you go anywhere further with your
887.22 -> purchasing decisions take the price on that 50
centiliter bottle divide by 50 and multiply by
897 -> 70 or if you're in the United States multiplied by
75 and then look at the real price of that whiskey
906.9 -> if you had got it in a standard bottle
and this is where it starts to look
914.16 -> expensive then compare it to the other seven
standard 70 centiliter or in the USA 75 centiliter
923.46 -> bottles in the shelf and you will find that they
are probably delivering far better value to you
931.44 -> be aware of that I'm here because despite the
fact that I share I also care what I share
939.42 -> and yes I dare to share what I care and do
you know why because I know you're there
946.02 -> to listen to what I care to share
and dare to share and care about
950.82 -> Etc I think it's about time I wound up this
video thank you for watching click subscribe
958.56 -> if you haven't it's lovely to see you it always is
you know I'm here in the birthday that's what I do
964.74 -> you know just chanting away head down get on with
business reviewing all these whiskeys for you for
972.96 -> you from around the world and hopefully someday
Beyond um you know you never know remember where
979.56 -> you heard that one first and we'll see you
soon yeah wonderful special marvelous people
