.98 -> Hi! I'm Suzie.
.78 -> I want to show you how to do a gel polish application
.02 -> like a pro.
.08 -> Let's get started.
.42 -> When I first began in nails, it was just polish.
.78 -> Now we have the invention of gel polish.
.44 -> It's fantastic. It's revolutionized the industry.
.54 -> So today I'm going to show you a few tips on how to get it right.
.4 -> It's a little tricky.
.76 -> It seems kinda easy because, you know, you just polish it and go,
.02 -> but there's a few tricks to putting it on.
.26 -> So when you're doing natural nails, you want to prepare the nail
.2 -> by using a file
.38 -> and buffing it up.
.76 -> Very quickly, just buffing up the natural nail, making sure you get every little bit of it,
.46 -> taking away the dust.
.64 -> And then you want to use a prep.
.7 -> And you just paint it on like this. I'll show you.
.84 -> These have acrylic on here so I'm going to be polishing acrylic nails for you,
.2 -> but I just want to give you a quick run down on natural.
.579 -> Then you would put the primer on. This is
.09 -> for natural nail preparation, okay?
.06 -> Now for acrylic or gel, when you're
.84 -> putting it on top of that, you don't need
.979 -> to do that so much. Gel really sticks to
.27 -> acrylic and gel quite nicely. Okay, so,
.84 -> here's my gel I'm going to use. You don't
.299 -> have to shake this stuff. This stuff is
.07 -> highly pigmented. It's really good stuff.
.75 -> I naturally want to shake it, as you know,
.43 -> I like to shake things, but this stuff is
.59 -> highly pigmented so you don't have to
.789 -> shake it. When I'm taking it out of the bottle --
.74 -> this is really important -- when you're
.24 -> taking it out of the bottle, you want to
.28 -> scrape it off of the post.
.49 -> You don't want running into you. You want to
.02 -> put this stuff on pretty thin, and you
.3 -> want to take it off half the other side
.13 -> of the post, and off the other side of
.74 -> the brush. Completely off of that side,
.1 -> and a little bit off of that side, okay?
.34 -> and it's much like, if you see my polish
.289 -> application videos, you don't want to
.97 -> take your little brush and put it right
.59 -> down at the cuticle and start, you want
.08 -> to kind of move up a little bit. Now this
.35 -> stuff's... it kind of sticks to where it
.06 -> goes. With polish, you kind of want to go
.59 -> one smooth swoop. This is a little bit
.93 -> more forgiving, this stuff. You can go
.54 -> like this. You can also take your time,
.48 -> unless you're sitting under a natural
.28 -> source or natural light is coming in the
.109 -> window, where the UV's can cure it, you
.75 -> don't have to worry about that. You can
.709 -> just take your time. So do take your time
.489 -> You want to get every little bit.
.9 -> We put it on quite thin. Gel polish
-> doesn't like to go and thick, and for
.769 -> a professional touch, don't forget to tip
.569 -> that end. This method I'm using is called
.09 -> capping the free edge. Now if you do get
.65 -> some on the side, just like nail polish,
.91 -> do take it off. Do the application
.18 -> process quite thin
.84 -> You can go sideways. You really want to get down in there. You can go
.26 -> like this all over. You can go like this.
.88 -> You can't really do that with polish.
.78 -> And don't forget to tip the end. Sometimes I will
.36 -> tip all the ends first, and then go in
.379 -> and do it.
.91 -> Because sometimes you can leave a bit of
.47 -> a ridge, and then if you go this end... Like
.23 -> you can see a little bit of a ridge
.36 -> there. Whereas you can take that away.
.7 -> Sometimes too... I'll show you more with the ---
.93 -> with the cream one that I'm going to
.13 -> show you, you'll be a little more finicky.
.6 -> But take your time in doing this.
.96 -> You can see it a little bit on the
.04 -> cuticle there, so I'm going to take this
.29 -> cuticle stick. The reason why we want to
.72 -> take that away and take it off the skin,
.31 -> it will actually cure to the skin. It
.88 -> won't stay very long. The oils in your
.68 -> skin will sort of deflect it off.
.78 -> You want to do this quite thin so it cures
.08 -> quite well.
.26 -> So then I'm going to cure this in here,
.8 -> and this is an LED lab. This goes with
.96 -> the Max Estrada product. Each
.03 -> manufacturer will have different
.14 -> instructions. This requires, and it says
.39 -> right on the bottle, two minutes under a
.25 -> UV lamp, and his instructions say 60
.31 -> seconds in an LED. Every company can be
.04 -> different so you want to read your
.03 -> manufacturers directions. They have the
.28 -> best information what they want you to
.6 -> do. Okay, so, I do want to show you this:
.5 -> Ugly Duckling just came up with this
.52 -> beautiful color. I want to show you
.32 -> something that's interesting. I often do
.47 -> the thumb separately because sometimes,
.83 -> if you're especially if you're getting a
.39 -> color like this -- this is a beautiful
.01 -> color -- but I want to show you something.
.34 -> Now I'll show you how to put this one on.
.26 -> Particularly when you put this guy on,
.18 -> you can see it's a bit thicker
.95 -> consistency. When you put it on you
.23 -> gotta really coax it in there.
.06 -> It's a bit different because it's so
.29 -> much thicker in consistency because
.94 -> it's really highly pigmented so it's
.07 -> trying to make it very good coverage. You
.69 -> could almost do it in one coat.
.14 -> A few years ago, I was finding some. Even some
.3 -> of the brands out there now they will
.68 -> have a shrink
.88 -> aspect to them. You put them on, and it
.25 -> pulls away literally from the cuticle.
.02 -> Very frustrating. These high-end products
.11 -> here, particularly these two brands, do
.12 -> not do that. Some I've worked with in the past
.25 -> do, but I find this this company and
.25 -> Max's doesn't do that. And it is really a
.49 -> pleasure to work with because it
.53 -> actually remains where you put it. I'm
.95 -> going to put this on the end. Now when I
.66 -> cure this I actually try to do it -- I keep
.2 -> my thumb up. I keep it up like this in
.81 -> the light. If I keep it on the side,
.45 -> the polish, especially a little bit thicker
.979 -> like this, because its high pigment, will
.96 -> pool on the side, and that's very
.479 -> upsetting because when you pull it out,
.77 -> and it doesn't cure. It's pooled, and it's all
.11 -> mushy when you remove the sticky layer.
.729 -> Okay, so, what I want to show you is I'm
.53 -> actually going to put it on too thick to
.21 -> show you what it looks like when it
.5 -> wrinkles.
.88 -> If you put your gel polishes on too
.29 -> thick, and it's easy to do sometimes with
.88 -> the creams because they have such a
.98 -> thicker consistency, and you're trying to
.39 -> get the density of color. If you apply it
.64 -> too thick and try to cure it, you can
.98 -> wrinkle really bad, and I want to show
.81 -> you what that looks like. So I'm actually
.93 -> going to apply it too thick.
.54 -> This is certainly not a reflection on Ugly
.5 -> Duckling at all! I love their product! I'm
.63 -> simply using it for a demo. If it's too
.91 -> thick, it just wrinkles.
-> Ugly Duckling recommends 90 seconds in a UV and 45
.34 -> seconds in an LED.
.9 -> Okay, so, take a look at that. It's starting to pit, and it's kind
.26 -> of wavy. And it's not curing because
.23 -> it's too thick. Just proving that gel
.84 -> needs to go on relatively thin. Okay, so,
.419 -> I'm going to show you what that looks
.47 -> like when you try to remove it. It's a mess. This
.26 -> is why you don't want it to happen it.
.61 -> Because it really is pain. So spray some alcohol on
.86 -> my pad here, and I now I'm trying to
.81 -> remove the sticky. And when you see it...
.41 -> See how it comes off like that?
.79 -> That's not obviously cured. Just trying to
.85 -> show you mistakes. What it looks like,
.23 -> right? And you can see that this: you rub
.9 -> it a little bit harder it'll literally
.24 -> just... you can see that first layer... See
.58 -> that? Look at that!
.62 -> It's just wrinkling right off.
.649 -> That is under-cured. [Camera Guy] That's some (inaudible). You gotta fix that.
.119 -> [Suzie] (giggles) Okay, well, see if I can show you this?
.189 -> Okay so I'm going to get a course file.
.529 -> And what you have to do is, like I say
.619 -> you can soak it in acetone or a gel soak
.039 -> off remover, and do that for about ten
.639 -> minutes, or if you're impatient like me, you can
.699 -> file it off, and like I say, you can file
.449 -> it smooth and try to paint it on again.
.42 -> But if you see... See those little edges there?
.86 -> If you have any little thing
.829 -> underneath there, little dust or ridges,
.63 -> of any sort, that's what can happen.
.339 -> You'll see that through it. You don't
.649 -> want that. You want to make sure that the
.3 -> nail is not smooth, like super smooth,
.81 -> because you don't want the gel polish to
.279 -> chip. It has to be a little grit
.87 -> there for the polish to adhere to. So we
.24 -> do want to file this off though. What I'm
.819 -> saying is we can't get away with
.17 -> salvaging this as much as I'd like to so
.11 -> we don't waste any time. You really got
.529 -> to file it off. This is when you really
.54 -> need a course file.
.9 -> So I filed this all
.06 -> off, and I'm going to paint in layer.
.74 -> And don't forget to do the tip, okay?
.019 -> And this is when I sort of do it like this
.36 -> angle a little bit so it doesn't pool on
.04 -> the side to get that thickness. Okay. For
.329 -> a little bit of a different look, you can
.47 -> do on the matte, either in French style or
.98 -> on an angle, or anything you want for
.48 -> that matter. We'll just quickly show you.
.01 -> Just adds a little dimension to it. Just
.58 -> for a little bit of fun.
-> Okay, and you just nuke it, and you don't
.869 -> see the effect until you take the
.219 -> alcohol and remove the sticky layer off it.
.349 -> Then you see the effect. Okay so
.249 -> I'm just going to take my alcohol, and
.799 -> just remove that, and you'll just see the
.08 -> matte take effect.
.5 -> (giggles)
.52 -> So if your client sit
.769 -> really still when you're getting the gel
.419 -> application done, if you move a little
.309 -> bit it might go into the cuticle, and
.509 -> once you get into the cuticle, it's
.709 -> really hard to get it out of there. And
.089 -> if your nail technician just take your
.859 -> time and hold that finger steady. She
.319 -> can't get away on you. Okay, let's get a
.749 -> little reveal of those.
.42 -> So if you're polishing your nails with gel polish
.439 -> yourself, I hope that gives you a few
.179 -> tips to make it just a little bit more
.069 -> easier to do.
.92 -> Okay, thanks for watching,
.049 -> and I'll see you in the next video
