9.74 -> When I say VW Type 1, not many
of you know what I'm talking about.
16.09 -> I'm talking about a very old car, one of
the best sold cars in the whole world ever.
22.315 -> We know it as the VW 'Kever'.
25.68 -> In the US it was called Beetle or Bug,
so with the Beetle's revival in 1998,
34.27 -> VW decided to call the Beetle the New Beetle.
Get it? It gets more complicated.
40.55 -> When the car we're driving was introduced in 2011,
43.655 -> it was called Beetle instead of
Newest Beetle or New New Beetle.
50.665 -> Anyway, VW decided to go back to Beetle,
the nickname of the VW Type 1. Great.
57.495 -> Long story, but we're driving
a VW Beetle. That's nice.
62.015 -> You mainly buy this car for its looks and
how it makes you feel, because it's cute.
70.635 -> Well, cute? I think it's less cute than
the previous one, but that doesn't matter.
74.36 -> It's a fun car with a retro design.
78.525 -> If you're looking for a Beetle, you get to
choose from gasoline engines with 104-217 hp
83.535 -> and diesel engines with 104-148 hp.
88.1 -> There's a 6-speed manual transmission
and a 6-speed DSG.
94 -> ENGINES
gasoline
98.3 -> ENGINES
diesel
105.985 -> If you want to buy a Beetle new, which is still
possible, some engines are no longer available.
112.06 -> At the moment, only gasoline engines
are available with a maximum of 148 hp.
118.02 -> The 1.2 and 1.4 TSI are available,
the 2-liter has disappeared from the range.
123.505 -> Diesel engines are no longer available
either at the moment.
127.255 -> At the moment, 45 Beetles
are for sale on Marktplaats.nl
131.76 -> 15 are a convertible, 17 have a DSG.
138.66 -> Only 2 second-hand cars have a diesel engine,
so if you want a Beetle with a diesel engine,
145.025 -> you can't buy it new, so you'll have
to be quick or be patient while searching.
151.54 -> Prices start at 15,000 euros. The convertible
is a bit more expensive, starting at 24,000 euros.
158.5 -> Prices go up 'til 37,500 euros for a closed car
162.155 -> and 40,000 euros for
the prettiest low-mileage convertible.
176.08 -> I already mentioned some reasons
to buy a VW Beetle at the start of the video.
180.025 -> It looks cute, different from
the average Golf on your street.
185.785 -> It gives you the same driving pleasure, maybe
more so. The Beetle is secretly a fun car to drive.
191.98 -> It handles directly; it's a fun car. You also
feel like driving something special.
198.98 -> The interior is more funky.
205.87 -> It's a nice alternative for a Golf
or Opel Astra. It's more special.
215.75 -> Of course there are things to watch out for. First, the
Beetle is available with 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines.
222.345 -> Those engines are known for their problems
with timing chains, especially with the tensioners.
228.175 -> On a cold start, beware of rattling sounds.
The chain tensioner works on oil pressure.
234.22 -> With a cold engine you have a lower oil pressure,
thus problems are more noticeable then.
241.18 -> I have to say that the problems get
less the higher the model year becomes.
249.38 -> VW keeps working on improving their engines.
The newer versions have less problems.
256.015 -> It's a problem that does occur and you
read horror stories about it on the Internet,
261.135 -> but it's not like every 1.2 or 1.4 TSI
breaks down. More so, it's rare.
269.305 -> But it does occur, so we had to name it.
272.025 -> The 2-liter TSI, which is no longer sold new,
is known for its oil consumption,
280.89 -> but not all engines have this problem; most
run perfectly. It's something to keep an eye on.
286.635 -> Frequently check the oil level.
290.545 -> It's good to know VW does a lot
with warranty for that problem.
295.535 -> When you go to VW with an engine that uses
a lot of oil, they may do something about it.
308.18 -> Nowadays, they do something about it sooner.
311.025 -> Next up are the 1.6 and 2-liter TDI
which were available in this car.
315.3 -> Those engines are involved with
the so-called Dieselgate scandal in the US.
320.775 -> This means that all US cars
are recalled for conversions.
324.38 -> It's still unclear how the problems will be fixed
in Europe. This'll probably be announced soon.
333.775 -> Keep in mind that when buying a 1.6 or 2-liter
TDI you'll have to go back to VW for a recall.
343.82 -> That'll probably be a software update and
maybe some adjustments under the hood.
347.87 -> There are two issues specific for the convertible.
352.375 -> The first one isn't really an issue, but something
you should know. There's little space in the back.
360.11 -> See if it's enough for you, especially when
you have kids or go out with friends.
366.235 -> The closed car has plenty of space in the back.
372.74 -> Check if you're comfortable
in the back of a convertible.
376.83 -> Another thing for the convertible is the spoiler
above the trunk lid collecting rainwater.
382.67 -> When you open the trunk lid,
all that water falls into the trunk.
388.525 -> That's a shame, but not much can be done about it.
Just be careful when the weather has been bad.
393.83 -> The 6-speed DSG needs servicing every 37,000
miles or every 4 years, whichever comes first,
403.935 -> to do its work properly.
405.935 -> The cool car we're driving today is a 1.2 TSI;
a pretty Cup edition, so it looks cool.
413.775 -> It has a lot of options:
split A/C, heated seats, satnav, everything.
420.065 -> I think it's cool, especially the painted
parts in the interior and the retro rims.
425.7 -> It suits the Beetle, harking back
to the past, just like it should.
431.565 -> We borrowed it at
Autobedrijf Terpstra in Sexbierum.
435.3 -> THIS CAR
451.945 -> If you're looking for a second-hand car and want
our help, or if your company has a nice car for sale
