Ford Mustang Mach-E - AutoWeek Review - English subtitles
Ford probeert de Mustang Mach E te verkopen als een nieuw soort Mustang. Dat is het echter niet, de elektrische cross-over kan bijna niet verder van de legendarische pony car afstaan. En dat is maar goed ook.

14.626 -> There's a big chance that you know this is a Ford Mustang if you see
this logo. And you'll probably think of a few things.
20.081 -> A big combustion engine, preferably with eight cylinders,
a coupé with rear-wheel drive and an chassis with proven technology.
26.491 -> Well, if it's up to Ford, those aren't the things you'll think about
when you're thinking about a Mustang anymore.
30.132 -> This is the all new Ford Mustang Mach-E. It's not on an already
proven platform, because it's entirely new,
37.147 -> it doesn't have a big V8. It doesn't even have a combustion engine.
Also, it's not a coupé and you can have rear-wheel drive if you want,
45.165 -> but it's not obligated.
54.365 -> Depending on the version you get, you can choose between having
one electric motor and rear-wheel drive,
59.512 -> or two electric motors with four-wheel drive. Additionally, you can
choose between two different battery packs.
65.041 -> 66 kWh or 88 kWh, and you can combine the two if you want. So you can
have rear-wheel drive with 66 or 88 kWh or you can have four-wheel drive...
74.236 -> with 66 or 88 kWh. Because Ford wanted to look good, they gave us the
All-Wheel Drive Extended Range. So four-wheel drive and the biggest...
84.243 -> battery pack. That means you've got a 0-100-speed of 5,1 seconds,
a limited top speed of 180 km/h and a WLTP-range of around...
92.813 -> 540 kilometres. Great numbers to rival the Polestar 2, the Volvo XC40 P8
Recharge or the Tesla Model 3 or Tesla Model Y All-Wheel Drive Long Range.
105.378 -> I do have to say, there are faster alternatives. And I'm looking at Tesla
here. But it's still potent enough with 351 horsepower.
116.733 -> It's seriously pony-car quick. There's going to be a 500 horsepower
GT-version as well, but when you put your foot down after a roundabout...
125.04 -> it's seriously quick. It's a lot of fun and you have to try it,
but after a while you start enjoying all of the other advantages...
133.255 -> you get from an electric car. The gears are linear,
it's incredibly quiet, very comfortable,
137.911 -> and more importantly, if you select One Pedal Driving in the menu,
you can actually drive it with one pedal.
144.805 -> They've tuned it very nicely. When you release the throttle, it won't
slow down immediately. It slows down gradually.
151.531 -> But if you turn off the cruise control or something, it still won't slow
down all of a sudden. It will remain gradually.
157.849 -> That way, you're able to smoothly drive it with one pedal. It will
slow the car down all the way to a stop.
162.452 -> It'll only move when you use the throttle again as well. A very pleasant
drivetrain to have, really.
167.309 -> You can choose between three modes. Active, Whisper and Untamed. So
that's Normal, a little slower and a little faster.
174.738 -> I do have to say, you won't really notice anything different. In
Untamed, the throttle response is slightly quicker, but the differences...
182.604 -> are little. As a whole, the drivetrain is very good. Then, the range.
Ford says it can do 540 kilometres, but I drove it yesterday.
191.681 -> It was eleven degrees out, so it wasn't too cold and I only used
the heated seats and ventilation on the motorway.
198.418 -> And in 215 kilometres, half of my battery capacity was gone. So if
you calculate it, it could've done 430 kilometres on a single charge.
205.487 -> In this part of the market, it's got the best range except for a Tesla.
However, it does have a seriously big battery pack with 88 kWh.
215.129 -> So it's not particularly efficient, but the range itself is above average.
So that's good. If you're empty, you can charge it with alternating...
224.696 -> current up to 11 kW or at a DC-charger up to 150 kW. However, that comes
with a comment. I tried quickcharging it yesterday at a FastNed-charger,
234.184 -> and it went very well. When I reached 50%, it dipped a little but it
was still good. However, when I reached 80%, it plummeted to 12,5 kW.
246.29 -> So charging more than 80% at a quickcharger doesn't have any additional
advantages. It won't be quicker than a regular charging station.
254.903 -> Anyway, it still has pretty good charging possibilities. Right, the
chassis then. They've really tried their best with it.
262.603 -> They wanted it to really feel like a Mustang, and it does. Partly.
It's a simple chassis. No air suspension, no adaptive dampers,
268.795 -> but they've found a very good compromise. It's pretty comfortable. If
you're on bad roads, the springs are soft enough not to make it bounce.
278.869 -> It doesn't rattle, it doesn't shake. However, at lower speeds
it will be a bit bumpy on speedbumps or something. You'll be like this.
288.01 -> It's not annoying or anything, but it could be more comfortable.
However, if you get out of the city, it's really nice to drive.
294.991 -> Also, it has seriously dynamic capacities. The centre of gravity is very
low, the weight distribution is 50/50,
301.162 -> so you can clearly feel what it's doing. If you push too hard, it will have
some understeer, but you can easily correct that by putting your foot down.
309.885 -> You can get the back to break out, so it's pretty playful.
311.691 -> The only thing I don't like is the steering, which feels very artificial. It has
a constantly self-centering effect to it, as if it wants to take over your...
319.343 -> steering wheel. And I don't like that. It'll remain like that if you
turn off lane-keeping. That could've been better.
332.329 -> Luckily, the car is eligible for over-the-air-updates. And since I
already mentioned safety systems, I'd like to say this has lots of them.
338.602 -> This already is the most innovative Ford they've ever built, and it's
able to follow the car and remain within the lines on the motorway.
347.787 -> It's not as good as Tesla yet, which is able to do fly-overs all by itself.
Also, the Tesla will find the centre of the lane a tad quicker.
357.524 -> This has to think for a few seconds before the light starts burning,
after which you can let it do its thing.
361.832 -> So it's already good, but it can be better. However, I do have to say
it's not bad at anything or something. It's a very good car already.
387.384 -> IF we look at the interior, the Mach-E isn't doing anything wrong either.
In the back, you can fit more than 400 litres underneath the, kind of flimsy,
395.215 -> parcel shelf. But anyway. At the front, there's a frunk which can fit 80 litres.
Usually, you can use that space to put your charging cables.
404.218 -> That way, they won't make your boot dirty. However, for some reason
there has to be a divider in the front of the Mach-E in Europe.
412.019 -> But if you won't tell Ford, you'll probably be able to remove that
so you can actually put your charging cables in there.
417.651 -> That way, the luggage space can be used for luggage.
419.56 -> Then, the rear seat. I'm 1.80 m. tall myself and I'm very comfortable.
My feet easily fit beneath the seat, I've got enough legroom,
426.964 -> the headroom is alright for me, but I wouldn't want to be taller in here.
However, for five adults, because there's no middle tunnel,
436.48 -> it's a very practical car. If we look at the front seats, we've got the biggest
surprise of them all. Ford isn't really known for their beautiful interiors,
444.72 -> but for this segment? I mean, it's not a Polestar, but it sure looks
better than the equivalent Tesla Model 3 or Model Y.
451.914 -> And I do have to say, it all works very nicely as well. They've stolen the
big vertical screen from Tesla, but it works very well.
460.068 -> The buttons are big, you don't need to scroll through thirteen menu's
first and you're never more than two clicks away from what you want.
465.309 -> And that makes it all work. The seating position is very adjustable
as well. It's not original, but it all works.
470.888 -> And that kind of is the story of the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
It doesn't excel in anything.
478.315 -> A Polestar 2 has a nicer interior, the Tesla has a bigger range, the Volvo
XC40 P8 Recharge is faster from 0-100.
484.804 -> However, the Mach-E is always better than average, which makes the
total package a very interesting deal. Especially if you look at the prices.
492 -> This is the most powerful version with the most all option packs,
two of them. So it will cost you around €70.000.
498.614 -> That's a lot of money, but if you combine this 88 kWh-battery pack with
the rear-wheel drive version, you'll be able to knock off €9.000.
507.178 -> That means you've got a very luxurious, practical, fast electric SUV
for just over €60.000, and it's got a good range as well.
517.218 -> The only problem is the name. This is not, in any way, not in the slightest,
even close to being a real Mustang. And that's very, very good.
