And while most people take this opportunity to learn about and reflect upon the accomplishments and struggles of African-Americans, plenty more choose to criticize the annual celebration. What many fail to realize is that black history is largely overlooked within the broad scope of American history, and the purpose of Black History Month is to spread awareness of this vibrant cultural past as well as black americans’ important contribution to the development of the USA as we know it. After all, without black history, America would be a very different place! -------------------------------------------------------------- To learn more about some famous African-American Inventors: Mark Dean: Co-Invented the Personal Computerhttp://teacher.scholastic.com/activit … Gerald A Lawson: Helped Develop The Video Game Consolehttps://atlantablackstar.com/2013/10/ … George Crum: Invented Potato Chipshttp://science.howstuffworks.com/inno … James Edward Maceo West Developed the Foil Microphone Used in 90% of Cell Phoneshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_E … Jan Ernst Matzeliger Revolutionized Shoe Manufacturing in the 1800’shttp://teacher.scholastic.com/activit … Lewis Lattimer Developed Long Lasting Carbon Filament for Lightbulbshttp://science.howstuffworks.com/inno … Dr. Daniel Hale Williams performed the first successful Open Heart Surgery http://www.aaregistry.org/historic_ev … Otis Boykin’s Resistors \u0026 Control Unit Helped Make the Modern Pacemakerhttp://teacher.scholastic.com/activit … For more info on the importance of African Slavery to the American Economy \u0026 America’s Rise to Powerhttp://news.nationalgeographic.com/ne …http://www.thenation.com/article/how- …https://www.stratfor.com/analysis/geo … -------------------------------------------------------------- Starring: Chad - James W. 1.503 -> - Ugh, I hate having a birthday
during Black History Month.
6.054 -> Why do I only get a day when
they get an entire month?
8.968 -> - You're so smart babe.
10.35 -> - You know what we really need?
11.255 -> We need a White History Month.
12.393 -> - Did someone say that there should be a
15.226 -> White History Month?
16.236 -> - Yeah, how'd you know?
17.188 -> - Let me guess, you're
not racist or anything
18.651 -> but you just think it would
be better if we didn't
20.265 -> have a Black History
Month in America at all.
22.448 -> - Yeah pretty much.
23.492 -> - Let's get this over with.
25.268 -> - And then Chadwick wins cribbage.
30.273 -> - It's Mandy and I.
31.283 -> Why are dressed so lame?
32.792 -> And what are those stupid ass shoes?
34.708 -> Why is everything so different?
37.041 -> - Well you see Chad,
without black inventors,
38.746 -> our world would have missed out on huge
40.338 -> advancements in cell phone technology,
42.126 -> gaming consoles, and personal computers.
44.628 -> Not to mention important
shoe making techniques,
46.422 -> light bulbs that last
more than a few days,
48.175 -> and delicious, delicious potato chips.
50.102 -> A world without black history
is completely different.
53.144 -> - Yeah but all that stuff
would have gotten invented
55.106 -> anyway.
55.896 -> - If all inventions are
inevitable, then why celebrate
57.858 -> any inventors Chad?
60.029 -> - Wait where's Grandpa?
63.315 -> Grandpa's dead?
64.777 -> - Yes.
65.567 -> Not only did a black engineer
help invent the pace maker,
68.237 -> but the first successful
open heart surgery was
70.373 -> done by a black surgeon so.
72.788 -> But black history's not
just about technology.
76.12 -> So what do you feel like listening to,
77.746 -> classical, Irish step
dancing, polka music,
80.288 -> an entire crooner station, more classical.
82.634 -> - Okay I see what you're doing here,
83.795 -> just put on Elvis and I'll be good.
85.385 -> - Elvis who?
86.337 -> - Fine I walked right into that.
87.672 -> Kenny Chesney or something.
88.845 -> - Oh sorry dude, country
music has its roots
91.582 -> in black R&B which means a
world without black history
95.184 -> is a world without country music.
96.984 -> - No!
99.595 -> This place is lame.
101.813 -> Where are we?
102.777 -> - Times Square, midtown Manhattan.
104.484 -> Ever heard of it?
105.18 -> - Yeah right, this is more
like some boring ass town
107.026 -> in some shitty little
country or some shit.
109.244 -> - Pretty much.
110.068 -> Not only was most of
early New York City built
111.773 -> by African slaves, but
without black slaves,
113.911 -> the south never developed
its labor intensive
116.024 -> cotton and tobacco plantations.
117.58 -> - What?
118.241 -> - Which means that the
north never developed its
120.714 -> financial sector or heavy
industries meant to support
123.115 -> that very same lucrative cotton industry.
125.509 -> - What?
126.09 -> - It's entirely possible that
without the contributions
127.971 -> of black Americans, we
wouldn't have the money to have
130.548 -> made the Louisiana Purchase from France.
132.185 -> - What?
133.091 -> - The land deal that
expanded America's borders
135.215 -> and catapulted it into
being one of the world's
137.63 -> leading food producers as
well as a global leader.
140.765 -> - Wait so you're saying
that without black people
143.818 -> most of this country is owned by France.
147.615 -> - It's entirely possible.
148.985 -> - No, no, take me back, I want to go back,
151.783 -> I want to go back!
157.878 -> What month is it?
158.493 -> - February.
159.072 -> - Specifically.
160.037 -> - Black History Month.
161.036 -> - Oh, thank god.
162.255 -> Happy Black History Month grandpa.
164.008 -> Happy Black History Month potato chip.
165.703 -> Happy Black History Month cell phone.
167.05 -> Happy Black History Month hip hop
168.884 -> and street wear apparel.

172.39 -> - Black History Month,
173.47 -> you just said there should
be a White History--
175.418 -> - Shh.
177.812 -> I'm woke now.
179.31 -> (upbeat music)
184.859 -> - Okay fine, Beastie Boys?
