Is XLT The Perfect Trim? // Ford Expedition Review
Among giant SUVs, the Ford Expedition is now the oldest next to the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon twins, and the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though… The Expedition still gets the formula right, and Ford is able to bestow upon it all the goodness of the Ford F-150. With a new Ford Expedition on the horizon, does the current Ford Expedition still hold up compared to its larger competition? And how does Mrs. JAX feel about the Expedition after having driven a number of competitive SUVs since we last had the King Ranch trim Ford Expedition (which remains one of her favorite press vehicles of all time)? Expedition is the oldest of sort of the big three

the sort of analog gauges are pretty Antiquated

Comfort it's pretty great [Music] I remember what

well I think the interior kind of proves it I mean
450.9 -> this standard wheelbase Expedition is 63 cubic
feet of cargo space behind the second row which is
456.9 -> perfect for a family of four hour size especially
because we don't have to carry all the little kid
461.7 -> baby stuff that we used to when the girls were
small that makes it a lot more manageable than
466.14 -> a more Titanic sized SUV God himself could
not see this ship I mean the Tahoe has a
472.26 -> whopping 72 cubic feet which is pretty nuts
and the Wagoneer has 71 and I think if 63
480.18 -> is enough for you then it definitely makes
the Expedition feel smaller than it actually
486.36 -> is from behind the wheel and some people
might find that to be a benefit [Music]

Ford's twin turbo V6 making 380 horsepower
503.34 -> and 470 pound-feet of torque and that's running
through Ford's 10-speed automatic transmission
510.48 -> and in this model it's hitting the ground via
well two wheel drive because you have four high
516.48 -> four low but you also have two high so you have
the ability to turn four-wheel drive on and off
521.88 -> and that makes this a pretty versatile Cruiser
and it's not wanting for power now in terms of

Impressions from my side of things then you can

it has sort of a comfortable ride quality over a

you feel a little bit more of that road texture on

right and another thing that I notice is that
557.1 -> the the off-road sort of biased four-wheel drive
tires seem to make it slightly more noticeable now
562.8 -> this is a big truck are you really going to care
probably not and it's definitely never wanting for

mileage benefit though I've had the tank on sort
572.04 -> of I refreshed at the minute we got the vehicle
so we drove highway miles all the way to Florida

Florida a little bit back and forth to work and

per gallon so there's nothing wrong with this

the torque is massive but if you're not going to

this thing to ride like the truck that it is

but nothing that I would be like Oh I'm not

perfectly I mean it was just a very smooth I had

comfortable that I was like I'm gonna fall asleep

end but you know I'm old what are you gonna do

well much smoother than my 12 year old's version

so this Expedition costs just over 65

loaded XLT trim it's giving you a lot of what you
656.22 -> want and there's nothing wrong with the XLT
trim it looks good enough the wheels aren't
660.18 -> cartoonishly large it's got a lot going for it
it kind of makes sense to me to be honest with
665.58 -> you the XLT trim with these higher option
packages gives gives you a lot of what you

memory it's got a heated steering wheel it's
674.88 -> got four-wheel drive which is a nice benefit it
feels like it's hitting a sweet spot of sort of
680.7 -> Premium features in a sort of mainstream trim now
personally I prefer the Tahoes ride and handling
688.8 -> balance but to spec out a Z71 Tahoe with kind of
the things that would really set it apart namely
697.74 -> the magnetic shocks and air ride would set you
back another couple thousand dollars and I could
702.66 -> certainly see a number of P people choosing the
Expedition sort of classic good looks and lower
708.72 -> price with a lot of choice options as opposed
to something that costs nearly seventy thousand
714.66 -> dollars like the Tahoe Z71 which is actually a
little bit more because I tested it a year ago

I'm saying so as I always say should you buy a
725.7 -> Ford Expedition in XLT trim with this sort of
option set well I think a lot of people would
733.02 -> buy this vehicle mainly because you get a lot of
what you want and nothing that you really don't
738.36 -> need and the Expedition being the oldest of the
large SUVs with another one on the horizon means
745.08 -> that as the market sort of begins to stabilize
finally you might actually be able to find some
751.44 -> deals on these and dealers when the new ones do
roll out will be willing to maybe negotiate a
758.22 -> little bit so if we can expect a new Expedition as
a 2024 model I think is a safe bet then that means
765.36 -> these 2022s and 2023s might be able to be had at a
much more reasonable price than some of the newer
773.46 -> mainstream SUVs like I said given the choice I'd
probably go with the Tahoe but I think Mrs Jacks
779.1 -> could be convinced to get the expedition that is
assuming that she doesn't give in to that Bronco
