0.06 -> The delivery guy got this to me, too fast and too furiously judging by the shape of
4.33 -> the box but that’s not why we’re here.
6.59 -> LEGO Speed Champions started making movie based vehicles in the form of last year's
10.56 -> 007 Aston Martin DB5 and Fast & Furious 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, and now, the 3rd set of
18.33 -> this so-called movie cars sub-theme is the iconic Nissan Skyline GT-R from the 2 Fast
24.12 -> 2 Furious movie.
25.5 -> The highlight of the set is obviously the Skyline.
27.94 -> I’ll come out and say it, I’m not a car guy myself, and looking at this one I can
32.34 -> see the outdated look it has due to its manufacturing year.
36.5 -> It is however a brilliantly designed LEGO model and as I’m a strong advocate for building
41.93 -> experience above final looks when it comes down to how I rate a LEGO set, this one seriously
47.17 -> impressed me by the ingenious solutions and building techniques it used.
51.879 -> Seriously.
52.879 -> Now before going too much into that, the car does look great in the end, it is the first
57.809 -> one I built in the 8 studs wide scale which makes the cars look much more believable when
63.17 -> compared to the old 6 stud wide scale.
66.3 -> As most Speed Champions sets do, this one has a lot of stickers, 22 in total, which
71.73 -> does add a lot of much needed detail but it is a pain to place, especially in such a relatively
77.45 -> small set.
78.479 -> There’s still a few prints though, like the GT-R plate in the front, the driver’s
83.15 -> seat slope inside and for the first time ever, printed wheel arches that this set has two
88.78 -> which are actually mirrored.
90.25 -> There’s also a new element, the six spoke wheel trim in a metallic silver color, and
95.409 -> I’d like to highlight two others that felt new to me even though they’ve been around
99.59 -> for a while, this 6 studs wide windscreen, and a new type of wheel element that has both
105.24 -> tire and rim in a single element, as opposed to the regular type of LEGO wheels you’ll
110.08 -> see in cars with separate rim and tires.
112.6 -> It’s really hard to notice but the car has a slight angle to it where it’s leaning
117.009 -> forward a bit and underneath you’ll find some transparent elements to represent the
121.31 -> neon lights the car has in the movie.
123.87 -> The front of the car looks really good even though it was achieved with a lot of stickers
128.02 -> that were particularly hard to place in the wall elements here.
132.06 -> Removing the windscreen lets us access the interior of the car with the steering wheel
136.41 -> to the right since the car is Japanese, and to the left three NOS bottles with a funny
141.52 -> part usage with the flowers for the bottle caps and there’s a bunch of different gauges
146.39 -> made with stickers.
147.39 -> There’s a bit of room in the back though you can’t really access it unless you take
151.58 -> out some of the parts, and through the back windshield you can even see part of the car's
156.11 -> roll cage.
157.33 -> The back is also seriously impressive, there was a very smart choice of elements used to
162.03 -> give the car the different sized tail lights and the way the whole back was built was a
166.89 -> joy to put together.
168.54 -> Lots of different studs not on top techniques used to achieve the end result made it for
172.89 -> a super satisfying build, but the best was saved for the front of the car, where this
178.33 -> very weird looking build done with gun elements, clips and the gray nexo knight shield elements
184.25 -> clip to the car while staying in place by pushing against the triangular tiles on the
189.319 -> sides here, covered by a simple build for a great end result.
194.08 -> Not perfect as we can see these gap lines from above, but that can be somewhat overlooked
198.89 -> I feel, building this speed champions set has been one of the top most enjoyable building
204.07 -> experiences I’ve had in a few months.
206.51 -> I am under the impression that most Speed Champions will have a similar amount of care
211.42 -> towards building techniques so I’ll probably be paying close attention to the theme from
216.25 -> now on.
217.43 -> What made the car popular in the franchise was also its driver, Brian O’Conner, played
222.47 -> by Paul Walker who unfortunately died from a car accident.
226.11 -> It is however a cool homage to him having been made in minifigure form, and this one
231.459 -> matches the outfit he wore in the opening scene of the 2 Fast 2 Furious movie, white
236.62 -> wrinkled t-shirt and gray pants.
239.14 -> The arms are dual molded, meaning they’re done with two different coloured plastic types,
243.81 -> not printed, which is a harder process to do and the head features a single print, Brian’s
248.91 -> iconic smirk face.
250.58 -> As most minifigures in Speed Champions sets do, he also comes with a wrench so that you
255 -> have a way of taking out the rims from the tires, or at least, that’s what I always
259.109 -> felt these were for.
260.63 -> The set has 319 pieces and will retail for $25 which is in my eyes a very decent deal.
267.919 -> You’ll get an amazing building experience out of it not counting the sticker placements,
272.67 -> if you’re a fan of the movie, the car or the character you’ll be really happy with
276.95 -> getting it and for me the only real downside is that I don’t find the car particularly
281.919 -> great looking when compared to other speed champions models like the movie versions of
286.58 -> the Aston Martin or Dom’s Charger.
289.139 -> Drive safe on your way to get this set from January 1st, or, use the links below to order
294.16 -> online and support the channel.
