0 -> Hi , welcome to Savis fashion studio  [www.savisfashionstudio.com]. I am Savitha. In
2.16 -> this class I will show how to use this  free motion embroidery foot with this
6.45 -> brother machine. This is used to make simple  embroidery on your dress. You would also need
15.6 -> the darning plate or feed dog cover plate or you  may have an option in your machine to lower the
21.15 -> feed dog. You would also need the embroidery  hoop. Making of this Kaftan dress is shown in
26.19 -> the previous video. Doing embroidery with these  tools is very easy. However to get perfection
33.81 -> you would need more practice. Before trying on  an actual garment, try it on a scrap fabric.
40.5 -> Now I will put this free motion embroidery foot.  First remove the regular foot and remove the shank
50.55 -> with the help of the screwdriver . You just  need to loosen the screw, remove the shank,
64.05 -> now insert your embroidery foot. Place it in this  way and tighten the screw. Next you l see small
99.51 -> teeth kind of thing here which is the feed dog.  During sewing, it lifts the fabric and moves it
105.87 -> forward so it's easier while sewing. In freehand  embroidery you want to be in control of the
112.14 -> fabric as you'll be sewing as per the design.  You dont want the feed dog to push the fabric
117.72 -> forward. So we need to disable this feature.  In some machines there might be a lever which
123.63 -> will disable or enable the feed dog. If you don't  have that feature, we will be using the darning
130.38 -> plate to cover the feed dog. This is how the  back of the darning plate is and there are two
140.57 -> holes here. just press it down and now the feed  dog is disabled. Now thread the machine. I will
152.33 -> not be showing winding the bobbin or threading  the machine because you have already learnt in
156.17 -> our previous classes. I am using red silk thread.  The machine is ready to be used. The stitch length
171.38 -> and what kind of stitch doesn't matter. You can  use straight stitches or zigzag stitches. You
178.1 -> can adjust the stitch width or stitch lengths as  per your requirement. Before starting my sewing,
183.05 -> let me show how to prepare the fabric. This is a  cotton fabric. I've just done a simple design to
188.6 -> show how to use the free motion embroidery foot.  I have drawn this freehand you can use any other
194.27 -> design template and transfer the design onto  the fabric using carbon or r there are different
200.24 -> methods. This is the embroidery hoop. Loosen the  screw, remove the inner ring. Also while doing
208.9 -> the embroidery you need a backing or stabilizer  which makes it easy while sewing and also provides
216.7 -> strength to the fabric. I am using this as  stabilizer. So first I am placing the stabilizer
222.97 -> and then the design. Center the design in the  hoop and now place the inner ring. if the design
229.87 -> is bigger you would need to do part by part.  so just do one part first and then move to the
236.26 -> other. Once you have centered the design, place  the inner ring and before tightening the screw
241.9 -> pull the fabric and make sure it's taut. there  should not be any looseness here. Once it's fine,
252.04 -> just tighten the screw. now it's ready for sewing.  now if you see here when you put the presser foot
257.89 -> down it does not touch the surface, that is still  there is place. That makes it easy to move the
264.88 -> hoop around. There are different sizes available  in this embroidery hoop but make sure you have the
270.88 -> one which can easily accommodate in this space.  if it is too big then you will not be able to move
277.36 -> it around. before starting with sewing always sew  on scrap fabric and see if the stitches are fine.
286.45 -> now put the hoop under the needle now you see  it's difficult, it does not go. Lift the presser
293.62 -> foot completely and then it slides easily. Now you  can start the stitches from anywhere. I will be
300.64 -> doing this flower first. put the presser foot  down and turn the handwheel on the right hand
306.1 -> side of the machine to lower the needle and turn  it till bobbin thread comes up. now if you see
316.69 -> the bobbin thread has come up, pull it and hold  both the threads together and start sewing. I am
323.98 -> using straight stitch you can also use zig-zag  stitch. I've set the width and length at 1.
343.92 -> press the foot pedal to control the speed. you  can sew with full speed but with the hands you
350.52 -> can control the fabric movement. That is move  slowly as per the design and once you have sewn
355.47 -> a little, cut off this initial thread. just  go back and forth to make the line thicker.
361.26 -> the more thicker the line you want, more  times you would need to sew on it. now if
369.6 -> you see here the hoop is touching the foot  and I'm not able to move forward. Then you
375.99 -> can do it sideways or you can turn the other  way around so it's very easy to manipulate.
397.32 -> so you can move backwards, you can  sew front or you can sew sideways.
418.09 -> if you want to make thin lines, do not trace the
423.16 -> design bold or thick. I just made it  so that it's clearly visible to you.
438.25 -> whenever the movement is restricted and you are  not able to sew, turn the direction and continue.
499.08 -> now I've just done the outline  now if you want to do fill inside,
504.21 -> you can do using the straight stitch  or you can use zig zag stitch. I will
508.59 -> be using the zig-zag stitch to  fill inside. so let's start.
527.15 -> move back and forth till  all the areas are covered.
558.79 -> This is how you use the free motion embroidery  foot. I changed the thread to green.
592.59 -> I have completed this design. I will show you  how it looks on the wrong side. Once done you
603.66 -> can loosen the screw and remove the fabric  from the hoop. I don't do much embroidery so
611.64 -> I'm not an expert in this. hence this design  is not perfect but with practice you can get
617.7 -> it better and get perfection. if there are  designs in different places once one is done
625.17 -> you can put the hoop in the second design  that you need to embroider. so that's how
630.27 -> you do it. once the embroidery is done, you can  just tear this backing. once the embroidery is
646.48 -> done you may remove the embroidery foot by  loosening the screw and put the shank and
662.71 -> tighten the screw then put your regular foot.  don't forget to remove the plate before normal
672.52 -> sewing. Thanks for watching this video. See you  soon in the next class, till then HAPPY SEWING!
