0 -> hi my name is Melissa Van Dijk and in this video
I'm going to show you how I use benzoyl peroxide
4.8 -> to treat my acne so that it reduces and calmes
down much faster and then what's all left are
10.62 -> blemishes dark spots which can heal on their own
now you can of course use a bit of makeup like
16.68 -> foundation and or concealer to cover them up so
that the skin has enough time to heal itself while
22.92 -> you have a more even out skin tone and this is a
method that I want to share with you in this video
27 -> as well now let's have a quick look at what you
need if you want to recreate the method that has
32.82 -> worked best for me first of all I suggest using a
gel to foam or mild foaming cleanser to properly
38.76 -> wash your face to remove excess oil dirt sweat
light sunscreen and light everyday makeup from
44.7 -> the skin which you can use in the morning maybe
midday as well as in the evening then if you're
50.88 -> working with benzoyl peroxide my preference is a
four to five percent benzoyl peroxide cleanser to
55.8 -> treat my acne then during the daytime if you
have prolonged sun exposure I suggest using
61.02 -> a good sunscreen to protect your skin from any
sun damage sunburn as well as not making your
65.7 -> dark spots darker and I recommend working with
a mineral based sunscreen as it is less likely
71.04 -> to interact with your living skin cells therefore
you can then achieve less irritation sensitivities
76.32 -> or see an increase in acne then in the evening
this is more like of an optional step depending
82.38 -> on the sunscreen and makeup that you have worn
throughout the day use micellar water or a balm
87.18 -> cleanser to properly take it off the skin before
heading into your treatment cleanser now when it
92.7 -> comes to the tools that I like to use well you
can see I like enjoying washcloths to be more
98.4 -> specific microfiber washcloths also known as
a makeup washcloths and they are very soft and
104.16 -> gentle on the skin I like to use them in between
to remove any last traces that I may have missed
109.02 -> as well as when it comes to towels I also use a
fresh one a daily to pat the skin dry in between
116.76 -> now remember that benzoyl peroxide can bleach dyed
fabric so when taking it off with a washcloth make
125.04 -> sure that it is a non-dyed washcloth or even an
old one but still make sure that it's a clean one
130.74 -> where you do not mind it same would apply you
to your towels as well as what you're wearing
135.6 -> otherwise it may bleach your beloved fabric
and this is something that we want to avoid
140.22 -> now if you want to go over that information
like the list of products and and tools that
145.56 -> I like to use to recreate this method at home
you'll find everything in the description box
150.06 -> down below and you can even save it to
your device but now let's head into the
154.68 -> application so in the morning I start with
properly washing my face with one of the
159.54 -> recommended cleansers to remove excess
oil dirt and sweat from the skin so that
164.4 -> the benzoyl peroxide cleanser can work the most
effective to begin I wet my face with warm water
170.7 -> next I take about one pumped or coin sized amount
of the cleanser I foam it up between my hands
177.42 -> and then massage it evenly over
my skin for 15 to 20 seconds
184.38 -> I then rinse off most of the cleanser with
my hands using warm water I always use a
190.14 -> soft clean microfiber cloth often
referred to as a makeup remover
193.86 -> washcloth as a helper I wet the cloth then
squeeze out the excess water so it's damp
199.44 -> then I swip it over my face to remove
any remaining traces of the cleanser
206.1 -> so I only use it once and then I throw it into
the laundry so that I do not spread any further
211.08 -> bacteria afterwards I rinse my face several more
times then I pat the skin dry with a clean towel
221.52 -> next I apply a bit of the benzoyl
peroxide cleanser to the affected areas
231.06 -> and now I let it sit on the skin for about three
233.58 -> minutes then I use again a non-dyed
microfiber washcloth I wet it again
239.76 -> squeeze out the excess water and then
gently swipe it over the treated areas
248.1 -> now be careful not to put it immediately into
your laundry otherwise it may bleach your
252.6 -> beloved fabric instead wash it thoroughly before
doing so I rinse my face again with warm water
262.8 -> and then take a clean towel to pat it dry
267.78 -> now in case you wonder I only use this towel for
the same day and then in the evening I put it into
273.42 -> the laundry to wash it now if you experience a bit
of redness and it does not sting or burn it's just
279.66 -> redness don't worry it should go away after 15 to
30 minutes now if you have sun exposure during the
286.08 -> daytime and you want to wear makeup to cover up
your blemishes use your sunscreen at first then
291.84 -> let it set for 10 to 15 minutes and then move on
to your foundation and concealer application and
297.84 -> now let's see how you can do this you can use your
fingers or a brush depending on your preference
303.48 -> and the areas you want to cover dispense some of
the foundation or concealer on the back of your
308.4 -> hand dip your finger or brush into it and then
apply it over the areas or blemishes you wish
314.76 -> to cover use a bigger brush for larger areas or
smaller brush or your finger for individual spots
329.04 -> and so this way the blemishes can heal while
you have a more even out skin appearance
333.54 -> now I repeat this process up to three times per
day in the morning as I just shared with you then
339.24 -> midday if I'm not wearing any sunscreen and makeup
I'm repeating the same process as I've done in the
344.22 -> morning so gel to foam cleanser and then benzoyl
peroxide cleanser and then in the evening I have
349.08 -> a slightly different approach where I'm first of
all taking off my sunscreen and makeup properly
353.4 -> and then hop into the shower and this is not a
method that I want to share with you I usually
358.2 -> remove my sunscreen and or makeup with a balm
cleanser as I find this the gentlest however
363.84 -> you can also use micellar water if desired for the
balm cleanser I take a coin sized amount and warm
370.5 -> it up between my hands to melt it this helps it
to spread evenly I apply to dry skin on top of my
376.5 -> makeup and sunscreen while looking into the mirror
ensuring that it covers every area I massage it
382.32 -> evenly for about a minute to lift the sunscreen
and makeup from the skin then I hop into the
388.8 -> shower I want my face to emulsify the balm massage
it for a few seconds and then rinse off thoroughly
398.52 -> lastly I apply the benzoyl peroxide
cleanser to only the acne prone areas
403.26 -> then I massage it in for about 15 to 20 seconds
409.38 -> and again leave it on for two to three minutes
before rinsing it off thoroughly and that's it
422.04 -> now there's one last point that I want to
emphasize and this is that I only do this
425.7 -> method intensively whenever I experience acne
flare-ups and I do this as long as I can see
430.92 -> that I still have some pus in my active acne
or that it still is inflamed once that's gone
436.86 -> and I'm only left with blemishes or in other
words stock spots I just stop using the benzoyl
442.02 -> peroxide cleanser I give my skin some rest
so that it can start and heal itself again
446.64 -> however of course if you then experience a new
acne flare up this may be at the same spot or
451.5 -> different spot then go ahead and reintroduce
your benzoyl peroxide cleanser I just want to
456.3 -> emphasize that I do not use benzoyl peroxide
continuously I've tried this to also prevent
461.64 -> new acne from forming however it did not really
give me the desired results therefore I just use
467.04 -> it whenever I feel the need and this way it
has worked the most effective for me now I
472.38 -> do hope that you enjoyed this video and that
you find this method helpful for you as well
476.4 -> please let me know how it goes and if you
