8 -> Hello and welcome to another lesson here
12.84 -> at mmmEnglish! I'm Emma, your English
16.08 -> Confidence Coach and today I'm going to
19.38 -> be talking about two small but very
23.16 -> important and very common English words:
30.2 -> Now, these two words can be
33.57 -> used in a few different ways in English
36.12 -> sentences but in this lesson we're going
39.09 -> to focus on how they can add emphasis to
42.6 -> your sentences. So, how we can make the
46.35 -> meaning stronger.
51.12 ->
55.7 -> ... You should really get out there! Often these
60 -> words have a meaning that is similar to
62.699 -> words like 'very' and 'really' in English
66.479 -> sentences. So, they help you to to make
70.26 -> the meaning of your sentence stronger.
72.84 ->
77.67 ->
82.619 ->
88.4 -> So, how do you use these words effectively
92.28 -> in English sentences? The word 'so' is
97.35 -> used with an adjective or an adverb.
111.2 -> The word 'such' can be used
114.93 -> with a noun or a noun phrase, for example:
130 -> So, we're using 'such' with the noun. But, be
135.98 -> careful because a noun phrase can
138.5 -> actually include adjectives and adverbs
141.62 -> in it, so you need to look carefully for
144.8 -> the noun. If you simply look at the word
149.15 -> that is following 'so' or 'such' you might
152.9 -> make a mistake so be careful! I went to a
158.39 -> wedding last weekend and the bride wore
161.81 -> such a beautiful dress. The dress was so
166.64 -> beautiful now i'm going to give you some
170.45 -> examples to practice with. The next
173.12 -> sentence that i read out i'm going to
175.94 -> use the word 'so' and i want you to think
178.85 -> about how you can change that word
181.43 -> slightly, (change) the sentence slightly, so that
185.3 -> you can use the word such instead. Ready?
189.38 -> He's so generous. He's so generous. How
198.11 -> can you change it to use 'such'? You need a noun!
202.88 ->
207.13 -> He's such a generous man, or guy! He's
212.56 -> such a generous guy. Another one! New
217.03 -> York is such a big city. Got to swap it
222.34 -> back now! New York is such a big city. How
226.27 -> can you say that sentence using 'so'? You
229.21 -> need to change it. New York is so big.
234.52 -> Another one! That's so unlucky. That's so
246.7 -> unlucky. What's the noun? That's such bad luck!
256.33 -> 'Luck' is our noun. That's such bad luck!
261.91 -> Because I love you and because I want
266.08 -> you to practice what you've learned here
268.18 -> today, I've made a worksheet for you to
271.75 -> download and practice with. You can get
274.27 -> it from this link, up here. I want you to
278.29 -> actually use what you've been practicing
280.87 -> today. But don't go get it yet! There is
284.71 -> one more thing that I want to explain to
287.11 -> you about 'so'. Now the word 'so' but not
292.96 -> 'such' can be used in front of these words
304.8 -> Now, all of these words are quantifiers and
308.65 -> they're used with nouns in English
312.28 -> sentences. So, they help to tell us how
315.61 -> much of a noun there is, the amount or
319.24 -> the quantity of that noun. But I've just
323.14 -> taught you that you need to use 'such'
326.11 -> with nouns. So, this is a bit of an
330.52 -> exception that you need to keep in mind.
333.71 -> For example, there are so many people here today!
340.7 -> You've had so much to drink!
345.02 -> It's incredible but there's been so
347.64 -> little damage after the storm!
350.72 -> I'm surprised that so few children turned up today!
355.6 -> If you enjoyed this lesson make
358.34 -> sure you like it and share it with
360.74 -> anyone that you think could do with a
363.4 -> bit of extra help with their English grammar!
366.94 -> And don't forget to download
369.08 -> your worksheet up here! I want you to
373.26 -> practice using what you've learned today
376.1 -> if you're a subscriber, it's so awesome
379.79 -> to see you again! If you are not a
382.22 -> subscriber yet then click this button
385.22 -> here so that you can join us in our next
388.97 -> lesson together! There are lots more
392.72 -> grammar lessons like this one on my
395.15 -> channel, like that one! And there are also
399.59 -> lots of other lessons that can help you
401.99 -> to practice your speaking skills, your
404.39 -> pronunciation skills and boost your
407.06 -> confidence as an English speaker, just
409.88 -> like that one! I hope you enjoyed this
413.12 -> lesson and that I get to see you again
415.37 -> next time! Bye for now!
